Half-Life - Gordon Freeman - WIP

I never thought I'd get a Stormtrooper costume since I am probably too tall for one, but then I played the video game "Jedi Outcast" where there were indeed very much taller Stormtroopers than the original sized ones, then I learned about the FX armor and there you go, I'm now a Stormtrooper.

It was just a question of time before some other video game came along and affected me into wanting a costume. At first I thought Gordon Freeman's hair was red, so did many other people, but when the second game came out and his hair didn't look red at all and was instead brown. I looked back at the photo of him from the first game and noticed that his hair wasn't red there either. The hair color red can sometimes look more orange than red and is way lighter than his hair color from both games. This is also the thing with Padmé's night gown that looks purple until you get to know it's not purple at all, but metallic blue or something, so you get the idea..

So of course I had to try if this costume would be something for me. Many guys out there who have their beard trimmed the same way while wearing glasses think for some reason that they look like him. That's like saying you look like Brad Pitt because you both have a face. But could my boring face work with a pair of glasses and a beard? Or should I just give up this costume idea and go hide far inside a cave in the forest? I also have many of the same weapons in soft-air guns that look pretty much real (glock 17, SPAS 12, MP5) that I could use for this costume.

Ironically enough he had long hair in the first game that was tied up in the back, so since I want to make the HEV suit from the first game, this will be perfect for me since I need my hair long for three other costumes or so. I didn't tie it back in the photo though.

So now I'm just wondering about your opinions if I should do this costume or not.

EDIT - The original first post only showed the photo above with no reference as to who I was supposed to be to see if people would identify me as Gordon Freeman. The person who'd guess right would win a cookie...

Re: My newly wanted costume.

Damn, now I have to go buy two cookies... Yeah:lol

So, cave or costume building for me? I'll probably use it in about 7 years from now though, but need time for preparation, research, material gathering, power cell creations, MIT education, and game playing if nothing else..

Re: My newly wanted costume.

I say "Do it!"

You've got the right face for that costume! Just don't forget the crowbar :)

Re: Gordon Freeman

The look of him there from the second game always made me wonder how he got a haircut on a tram in the middle of space :confused Oh well, at least I won't have to cut mine so it won't fit my other costumes.

Re: Gordon Freeman

go for it mate. I think you can pull off the look EASILY!!!! You will be awesome and original LOL

Re: Gordon Freeman

Cool, that's good:cool Hehe, thanks :D I even bought a crowbar today, but a full red one, so will have to sand off some of the paint, but I'm always up for another project anyway.

Re: Gordon Freeman

Hmm, crud. Anyone know how to bend a crowbar to the right shape? The one I've got is the best looking one they sell in boring Norway, so I'm very much stuck with this one.

I guess hammering a hardened crowbar would result in either nothing or a broken crowbar. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Gordon Freeman

Make the crowbar from wood, it will be heavy to walk around with a metal crowbar.

Re: Gordon Freeman

The weight of costume props don't really concern me that much. Gordon Freeman walked around with a crowbar, pistol, revolver, SMG, SPAS 12, crossbow, rocket laucher, a couple of neat weapons and some tiny critters strapped to his back, so why should walking around with a crowbar be any problem for me?:lol

I would guess I have to heat the crowbar up first in a furnace and beat it flat, but then the paint would probably get burnt off, and the hardening would go away, but then I could re-heat it after bending and cool it off rapidly?

Anyway, are there any more reference photos of the HEV mark IV out there? I've googled it, but there are more photos of the mark V right now, and all the photos of the mark IV seems to have vanished.

Re: Gordon Freeman

Yes, Pepakura was something that I wanted to use for this costume. I have all the games, so there should be a 3D model in there somewhere. Thanks for the link, looks like they might be discussing something that will help me.

Re: Gordon Freeman

I need a second opinion on the paintjob so I won't mess this one up - To me it looks like the paint on it is metallic orange and darker metallic orange on some areas, but I'm not fully sure if it is painted plain orange or if it is metallic. My guess and preference would go towards metallic orange, but if anyone else have played the game or seen the first hazard suit, please tell me what you think it is.

Thanks.

Hm...From what I've seen it looks like its just one color. Just due to shading its different. And it seems its just plain orange.

Not sure if this helps you out

I'm just pasting random pictures to see if it helps you. If not, then just disregard me.

But try a bit of metallic and a bit of flat next to eachother. Although it seems its flat, metallic might look good. and give it that obvious metallic appearance.

Re: Gordon Freeman

Well, those photos that you put up links to are of the HEV suit from the second game, and that one doesn't look as if it's painted metallic as much as the first one does.

Here's some photos of the first HEV suit he wore, the one I'm building:

Perhaps since the first HEV suit does look like it is metallic painted when compaired to the second one that this means that it is in fact metallic painted? Looking at the hand plate, it looks much more like the light is being diffused over a metallic surface rather than plain orange paint.

Agreed on the screenshots (metallic nature)-- I tried to stay away from the drawings so I just sent whatever I could. If I had the game installed right now I'd try and take some for you but I don't have it up.
