I am starting to make guns from movies but, I am not sure how to actually make them look realistic. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

It's difficult on how to advise when you haven't specified what weapon you wish to replicate.

I've usually try to identify whatever model the pistol may happen to be to work on as a base. I've been fortunate enought to have found full sized squirtguns to start with and worked from there. The finishing of the replica with painting techniques is what gives the real look to a piece.

I'll echo what he said above.

Also, in general, you'll want to have clean, crisp lines. Nothing ruins the look of a nice replica gun for me than obvious warping, or uneven lines. You'll want to pay attention to the substrate; if you're making a gun that is visually based on wood, then it needs to have a subtle wood grain. If the movie gun is metal or polycarbonate/plastic, then obviously yours needs to have a spotlessly smooth finish as well, and the paints need to be selected carefully.

Do tell us more.

you could do a search pepakura guns, there are tons to use as base models and a few prop guns made already such as the Samaritan from hellboy!
