I, for one, am excited. I love the Mansion, and like Del Toro, I have a room inspired by The Haunted Mansion/Disneyland.

I'm really floored by this announcement. Especially the part about "The Hatbox Ghost" playing a key role in the movie. I've been a fan of the Hatbox Ghost for years and years! I have figures of him, custom made watches, I even created my own HB Ghost head (you might have seen the thread)!

Heck, I even own and maintain The Hatbox Ghost.com!!

This is a great announcement, and I couldn't ask for a better person than Del Toro to be involved, yet part of me is kind of sad this weird and obscure character is about to no longer be so. I kinda liked it being this odd bit of the Mansion's history...

BUT the Haunted Mansion is all about the tragedy that happened during the wedding; So, even it's a fun idea, why the Hatbox Ghost ?

I really hope they launch a viral campaign as good as Tron Legacy's for this movie... ^_^

im so glad eddie murphy is not involved. at all, and he joked about it too.

talk about god awful crap. i know disney can do spooky really well. the recent disney live action stuff has been really good, and thats saying alot because i havent liked anything remotely related to disney since rocketeer, and before that was tron and flight of the navigator.

i'll give it a shot. someone threw in steve martin as a possibility, i think he'd be great if they dont make him a father figure, but a ghost hunter of some sort. that way you get a few serious laughs, with a spooky/scary story. he's still speculation though.

Disney has been working on reinstalling the Hatbox Ghost for quite some time now, yet he never quite materialized. Many people (including myself) expected him to make his return to the Disneyland mansion in early September for the 40th anniversary, but he did not. So in adding him to the film, it gives Disney more reason to include him in the ride. He will become a more familiar character and will be easy to market (even though over the past few years, he has been a regular on all sorts of HM merch) And if they choose to add him, there probably wont be a huge backlash from fans of the original ride,ala Pirates of the Caribbean. So its a win/win situation for Disney and the fans.

my major problem with sparrow being in the ride is i cant hear any of the drivel he says at the end of the ride. why bother going through all the work of getting depp in the ride, and then not be able to hear him over people muttering and ride noise?

so, the main haunted mansion is a spider, webbed to other mansions. thats a pretty neat look at it.

JamesHook : I totally agree with what you said; But, still, the Hatbox Ghost is only a part of the whole story. Like, it would be like to do a movie on Chewbacca to tell Star Wars, see what I mean ?
