Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3

So, I went and saw it again last night.

I don’t think it can be overstated how grateful I am to have experienced this trilogy in its original run. I didn’t grow up with the Star Wars original trilogy in theaters—I’m even too young to have caught the Special Editions in the 90s. But I have to imagine the feelings of seeing those movies at the time, for the first time—the awe, the fun, the connection to those characters, and the bittersweetness of watching them take their bows, so to speak—have to be similar to what I felt watching the ending to Volume 3. I’ll always have a fondness for everyone involved in these movies, beyond even the rest of Marvel, for the most part, I think.
I agree completely and couldn't have said it better myself. I'm also too young to have even seen the Special Editions in the 90s, I grew up watching all 6 films on VHS and to this day have yet to see any of them on the big screen. Seeing the first Guardians in IMAX opening day back in 2014 was truly a transformative experience for me, as it was the closest I'll likely ever get to discovering Star Wars for the very first time on a big screen. I'll never forget it. Brand new lovable characters, heart & humor, vibrant new worlds & designs, unique sci-fi flavor, a killer soundtrack, and emotionally moving. I'm thankful for being able to experience all 3 films (+ Infinity War & Endgame) in a theater opening day with an energetic crowd.

I, like many on the RPF, saw Star Wars in theaters when it came out, and while it's been a HUGE part of my life, probably responsible for my career as well as a bunch of other things, I have to admit that the Guardians movies are deeper, more hard-hitting movies in some ways. It was pretty emotional watching Yoda die, Han get captured, and Vader being unmasked, but nothing like feeling for what Rocket had to go through. Lylla, and Rocket, and Floor and Teefs.
I saw Vol. 3 for the third time this past Sunday, and it's grown on me the more I see it. This time around I found myself even more emotional at certain parts than I was the previous two viewings. There's just something about these characters and the emotional chords James Gunn is able to play in these films that's truly masterful. I feel myself having a stronger connection to this dysfunctional family of space misfits than I've ever really had for Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Lando, R2 & Threepio. The Guardians films are absolutely deeper and harder-hitting for me and I'm grateful for the space in my heart they've taken ahold of over these past 10 years.

Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) viewing her song’s use…

I never liked this song… but it’s use in the flick has won me over.

“Aw crap here it comes… if Drax dances after these drums… imma lose it”

Great ending.

Thats awesome! Still gives me chills. I like the song and knew it immediately. The character montage was brilliant.
Gunn has a way with integrating music. I did not like the music genre of Vol1 prior to that movie and now I love it.

You should go on and gush about it as much as you want ….as many posts or pages as you need. I can’t get enough of reading peoples emotional response to this movie.

Time favoring myself being able to be in the '77 club I can atest that yes Guardians did hit that mark closest to that, at least for me. Which says a lot because Guardians came when I was in my late forties! So some things are different, SW was a lightning bolt out of the blue, and nobody had ever seen FX like that before or such world building. Guardians of course was out of MCU, FX can't dazzle like they used to, I'd read comics with these characters a few years before the movie was even announced. So I was familiar but MCU characters often are rarely direct ports over of their comic selves. Yet it was able to still connect in that special way SW did in many ways. I don't expect that to happen again.

What's crazy is now when I listen to this song, sometimes it unearths the same emotions I feel when watching the movie and I get choked up. Amazing what music can do.

I'm always impressed at how perfectly the ending syncs with the song. Gunn said on Twitter the other day this was the very first song he knew would be in the movie, and it shows.

I finally got to watch this, a couple weeks after release due to a myriad of reasons.

I absolutely loved it. James Gunn turned what could be one of the most obscure comic book teams (before their resurgence) into the most relatable and familial groups I've seen in the past three decades. Each character had purpose and many of them even got their own little version of redemption.

Easily my top 5 MCU films.

I can't wait to watch it again.

Really enjoyed it. I remember the trailer for Part 1 being released, and thinking it would be a HARD PASS on this franchise. No way a story that featured a talking raccoon could be relatable or get me invested. And like several others have pointed out, GOTG has essentially been the adult version of SW for me.

First one was just so unexpectedly great. Second one just as good. Third one...well, I'll be honest...I think the first two were slightly better. But I think it was still great. Can't believe I almost teared up at the mistreatment of a rabbit with spider arms. And how realistic was the ending with Gamora. As I'm solidly within the "middle-age" range now, you've experienced parts of your life that just didn't go the way you thought. But it's ok. You'll be ok. Happiness can still be yours. It just may lie down a different path than what you were sure about 10 or 20 years ago.

Solid ending to this team's story.

Lost my father at 15.
Brutal. I was late to a serious girlfriend really, rather alone for years on that teen loss after my fathers death, it’s already the angst years after all,
LOL lots of time in dark theaters spent, but from 18-21 felt like a miracle, and when she left it was devastating. A life lived is filled with such things.
And we learn from it (hopefully) to move forward better from it. Star Lord’s “Loser” speech? Who can’t relate on some level? Life is often and inevitably loss, but it is life lived. And you can still live well. If some things didn’t end then new things we can’t imagine not having never would have happened. And Im still in the dark theaters, not nearly as much as then but so it is. Thanks Guardians, somehow you made me believe a talking space raccoon is real. Seriously, I know he’s out there somewhere.
LOL

now that this is coming to digital soon, I cant bring myself to ever watch it again. Im not sure Gunn thought about rewatchability with this one.
It's certainly the least "fun" of the trilogy haha. I'm going to have to be in the right mood to rewatch this one — I suspect I'll end up tossing Vol 3 on less than the other 2, as great as I think it is.

I haven’t seen it yet, I think it comes out on bluray soon

I thought the "pull on the heart strings" moments were very effective, but the humor seems really forced in this one. It was okay when they were a rag tag group of misfits, but now it seems they are all just buffoons. I spent the whole movie either close to tears or cringing from the lame humor.

Watched it yesterday on D+. It was a good movie, not “fun” like the first two, but enjoyable.

If they’re truly done making them, it was a good send off.

I have no interest in a Starlord movie though.
