I received my DC Direct ring today and wanted to add my thoughts on things I noticed. In the interest of full disclosure, thanks to a foul-up with my pre-order, I paid full MSRP ($45) for the ring, plus shipping and sales tax.
Observations and thoughts (based on my ring alone):
-The ring feels solid and like Rusty85 noted, it has a nice weight to it with a much lower profile than the TRU ring.
-There is nothing foil-stamped about the box; it's just a standard two piece with a glossy paper print adhered to it.
-I like the green color of the face, but it rather reminds me of a Jolly Rancher candy cut into the known shape.
-The band's texture pattern is much more subdued than the TRU version. I also noticed the cut/design is not entirely symmetrical.
-My ring's gem slightly protrudes out over the "flat" face of the gem. It seems to reflect even the tiniest bit of light, which is cool because then it always appears like it's glowing a little. It has facets like most generic gems but with a smooth rounded top.
-Unfortunately, the gem does not appear to be situated evenly/level on my ring, so the center is slightly off to one side. The facets make this clearly noticeable.
-The ring around the gem is molded with it and is painted gold with a metallic paint. In the areas where the paint is applied thinner, you can see the green underneath.
-The dimples in the side of the green top have black paint added in the recesses. The face of the top isn't perfectly flat and two corners are raised higher than the other two, making it almost appear twisted/warped:

Final Thoughts
I have to be honest, I can't help but feel a little disappointed with the ring. It does have a fairly affordable price, especially if you had a decent pre-order opportunity. I like the subtlety of the band, but I rather dislike the generic faceted gem and how the face appears warped.
If you're someone who likes perfectly symmetrical jewelry and items, I'm honestly not sure if you'll be fully satisfied with this ring with all of its quirks (which might be perceived as flaws). I can understand if these things were also in the original prop used to create a mold, especially if DCD really did make a copy without making any changes or "improvements" (other than the gem).
If some of the things I noted
weren't in the prop, then it's rather sloppy for an item like this to have them, especially how the top is rather twisted. If my ring is the only one with some of these things, then it might just be a quality control issue. I really didn't have high expectations for the ring, and I must admit that after the work I've put into improving the TRU ring, I think I might end up liking it more than this one... but that's just me.
Anyway, thanks for reading...
