Green Lantern Movie Ring

please post pics when you get it! it looks like a beauty, are you planning on modding it to light up?

I thought it was supposed to light up when the included ring is pressed against it. They probably just use a magnet and a small reed switch to turn it on.

some props turn your head and some dont-- this one doesnt-- not impressed with any of them. Green Lantern used to be one of my favorites. Get the feeling that the Marvel movie mill is just gonna try to churn em out huh? who is next---Hmmmm

im sure the celeb one would reach hundreds if ever put on ebay.

my gripe about the ring is that, the TRU band looks way better than the dc direct but the logo on the dc direct ring was way better than the tru one

Totally disagree. The TRU band looks like a toy. Really crappy detail.

You know GL is DC right?

My middle finger is a size 11 and it fits like a glove. Just saying lol.

mine too. i dont really know what else s11 could stand for.

I also don't know what s11 stands for. But I now know for sure that it doesn't mean size 11. After reading these replies, and since everyone else has been saying the same, I finally dug out my caliper and measured the band.

I measured it in several spots and it varied between 0.872" and 0.877". Looking at several ring size charts online I see that size 13 is 0.874". The same charts say that size 11 is 0.810".

I also measured the size 11 and size 13 plastic rings from my free ring sizer and they also match the online charts. All of this tells me that the DC Direct ring (at least mine) is a size 13 just as it was advertised.

Would seriously love to see an Eaglewood concept GL ring. Fully working of course.:angel

Umm you mean DC Warner Bros.

s11 is the year stamp. As in it was made in 2011. DC stamps all their stuff like that as of the early 2000's. From their toys, to the 50 cent machine stickers. It does not mean the size.

I received my DC Direct ring today and wanted to add my thoughts on things I noticed. In the interest of full disclosure, thanks to a foul-up with my pre-order, I paid full MSRP ($45) for the ring, plus shipping and sales tax.

Observations and thoughts (based on my ring alone):
-The ring feels solid and like Rusty85 noted, it has a nice weight to it with a much lower profile than the TRU ring.
-There is nothing foil-stamped about the box; it's just a standard two piece with a glossy paper print adhered to it.
-I like the green color of the face, but it rather reminds me of a Jolly Rancher candy cut into the known shape.
-The band's texture pattern is much more subdued than the TRU version. I also noticed the cut/design is not entirely symmetrical.
-My ring's gem slightly protrudes out over the "flat" face of the gem. It seems to reflect even the tiniest bit of light, which is cool because then it always appears like it's glowing a little. It has facets like most generic gems but with a smooth rounded top.
-Unfortunately, the gem does not appear to be situated evenly/level on my ring, so the center is slightly off to one side. The facets make this clearly noticeable.
-The ring around the gem is molded with it and is painted gold with a metallic paint. In the areas where the paint is applied thinner, you can see the green underneath.
-The dimples in the side of the green top have black paint added in the recesses. The face of the top isn't perfectly flat and two corners are raised higher than the other two, making it almost appear twisted/warped:

Final Thoughts
I have to be honest, I can't help but feel a little disappointed with the ring. It does have a fairly affordable price, especially if you had a decent pre-order opportunity. I like the subtlety of the band, but I rather dislike the generic faceted gem and how the face appears warped.

If you're someone who likes perfectly symmetrical jewelry and items, I'm honestly not sure if you'll be fully satisfied with this ring with all of its quirks (which might be perceived as flaws). I can understand if these things were also in the original prop used to create a mold, especially if DCD really did make a copy without making any changes or "improvements" (other than the gem).

If some of the things I noted weren't in the prop, then it's rather sloppy for an item like this to have them, especially how the top is rather twisted. If my ring is the only one with some of these things, then it might just be a quality control issue. I really didn't have high expectations for the ring, and I must admit that after the work I've put into improving the TRU ring, I think I might end up liking it more than this one... but that's just me.

Anyway, thanks for reading...

Its too low profile... wow, nice review though, you have one pic not loading from PB?

I still love zenix ring the best!

To my the DC ring looks like it is something that was hand made in someones garage. Which is ironic (not sure if I am using that correctly) because we have people here that could make something better than this in their garage.

Quality wise, I think you get more of a bang for your buck from the TRU version than you do from the DC version.

Honus,
If DC Direct's movie lantern is like their metal, comic-style one, then the ring will be magnetized to turn the lantern on.

That's kind of what I figured as a friend of mine has the comic lantern and that's how his- from what he told me his doesn't work that well. That's one of the reasons I started looking at using RFID tags to turn on the lantern. I think I've also figured out a way to get a LED in the TRU ring- I just need to go pick one up. I made up a prototype and so far it's been running for 36 hours straight.

I like my DC direct ring.. However there is a huge air bubble in it that is on the surface leaving a hole in the Green piece.. Any idea how to get in contact with DC to get a replacement?

Sounds cool...please share some pics!

How bad is it, the real rings had imperfections to show how old their were, it might give it some character...?
