Green Lantern movie Power Battery...

So four pages of the MOVIE Green Lantern power battery prop...however not much discussion on the ACTUAL thread topic prop....

To bring the thread a little more back on topic, and for the sake of completeness, here's both of the large promotional images DC Direct has provided of their Movie Power Ring Prop:

And here's the promotional image of the Movie Power Battery Prop with Ring:

And here's the ACTUAL Power Battery Prop (Prototype, anyway) as seen at Toy Fair...

CLICK HERE to see that Toy Fair image in an absolutely GINORMOUS size where you can make out more detail! You can definitely make out that the light is NOT only coming from the "lens" on the front, it is also DEFINITELY shining out through the body of the lantern, like it should. I'm guessing the stage lights were just bright enough to overpower it. Hopefully the included lighting system is brighter than what was used in the metal Hal Jordan battery from a few years ago.

are there any pics of the back of the battery?
I've not yet seen any pics of the back of the prop, but I *think* both sides are (virtually) identical, as is the case with Hal's battery in the comics. The reason I think that is this statue, which seems to indicate that the back looks the same as the front (except for the flaws/wear & tear, which may vary from one side to the other):

Click on the images to see bigger versions. :)

I wonder how the "veins" of the battery are going to look with the lighting on the actual finished prop. I have a feeling that's what's going to make or break this piece :love:cry

Click the link I posted earlier today, enlarge the image to full size, and check it out. If you look to the left of the central lens, you can see an area of the battery where the light is shining through the "veins" as you call them. Looks pretty good! :cool

EDIT: I think the reason it looks underwhelming is that there's an inherent problem with photographing an internally lit object, especially when you're using a digital point & shoot camera. I encountered the same problem years ago when trying to photograph my MR FX saber with the blade lit. With digital cameras, you end up with the light source either underexposed, looking barely lit at all, or overexposed and appearing much brighter than it actually is. It's very hard to get it "just right", in my experience. Highly experienced photographers have probably figured out all the "tricks" to do it right, but me, not so much. And I think the person that snapped that photo did what most of us do: Took a pic with their digital camera in "auto" mode, which usually doesn't get the exposure right. :unsure

Yeah, I could see it in the above posted pic, but like you said, it's hard to tell because of the intense showroom lighting. If the finished piece looks like the prototype and really takes advantage of the lighting, it should be good (but we're talking about DC Direct here - we won't know for certain until we see it in hand :cry)

At least it looks "alien" and not like a lantern from a railroad station or something. I'm really diggin' that ring too!

Movie Power Battery Prop Replica and Movie Power Ring Prop Replica can now be pre-ordered from Discount Comic Book Service for 32% off of DC Direct's MSRP! :):thumbsup

More pictures have turned up of the Movie Power Battery Prop from DC Direct and, more importantly, the size 14 Movie Power Ring that's included with it!

Here you go...

Guessing that's a prototype. I hope the final production versions have the correct SILVER ring around the center gem, because the solicitation images for DC Direct's size 13 ring that's being sold separately (the images shown in an earlier post) show the correct silver color on there. :unsure

That looks identical to the promo ring. I wish we could get some pictures of the DC Direct ring.
There's slight differences. On the promo ring sent to "the Great and the Good" the inside of the band was blackened as well. And I HOPE it wasn't a size 14 like this one is. :confused

does anyone have pictures of the Mattel version? it could be an easy mod
So far, I've only found one...

Pic was posted on the Green Lantern Corps Message Board in the Movie Merchandise thread last month.... it's in a LARGE photo with lots of other GL stuff, taken at either a comic con or Toy Fair...

You can see it behind the mask. After seeing some of the light effects on the large scale GL figure Mattel is making, I'm excited to see if they do any cool lighting effects with their Power Battery toy. Haven't found any pics or video clips of it lit-up yet. :(

You know, I've read so many reviews and criticisms from fanboys who have no sense of reality. Comics aren't real guys. Andmost of the time they're drawn by basic artists who have no idea how mechanics of things work. And with the exception of a few great comic artists, most dont really do the research before drawing the designs. Looking at some of he comic examples of the battery you're so harshly dismissing as horrible and "sacrilege" the comic designs dont even begin to look believable as a super source of power. Biomech? Maybe, but it looks functional. There's no way we could generate such power from modern technology. Looking at the movie design it looks like something beyond what we are capable of making, which is what it would take to achieve such energy. So many of the modern movies based on comics bring a great sense of realism and believability to them. But so many fanboys ***** because something was changed. Most of the time for the better. Hulk"1" not a great remake, but was not that bad, specially considering where the hulk came from in the campy all be it loveable TV series. Hulk 2 much better, but they made hulk too thin proportionally. Not per comics, but still a bad ass movie. Ironman's have been fantastic the armor has been made believable, and look beautiful. Spider man, good, 3rd one too much of a drama, but not as bad as most people would say. Point is, if they actually stuck to the comics 100% the movies wouldn't be believable at all. Its not a comic, but dragonball was a major flop. That's one case where they managed to completely destroy the story and movie all in one. Green lantern looks amazing, Thor looks amazing, captain America looks amazing. Time for you fanboys to get over whatever nostalgia you have for poorly designed poorly written comics. And accept that sometimes(not always, but sometimes) change is a good thing.
