I know that this paint has been a pain to get for us in the states and that we have had a member here doing all the legwork for everyone and has been stiffed by another member.. So, I found a website that sells this and will ship it to the US. Now everyone can get this paint and no one gets screwed. :thumbsup

Plasti-kote Gold Chrome Paint

I have used this paint before and dont understand why the fuss over it? Is there something I dont know? Is there something I should say, that would make you come my way, do you feel the same cause you dont let it show, oh ooohhh.....

TK409 (I think) had some impressive photos of some work done with this (i.e. you could actually see objects' reflections...)

But it sounds like this stuff never completely dries, from what I've gathered, and any touching of the surface will dull it up, unfortunately...

No first hand experience, but lots of looking into...

I know there was some confusion too, as the gold was available here in the US, just not the 'Brilliant Metallic' Gold - Big difference it results I heard.

I was going to get a few cans coming from the UK, but was hesitant after hearing that it never really sets up.

*Was curious if a heat gun or any type of baking would remedy that...

Any first hand experience out there that can enlighten us? (Again....)

It does dry but takes a long time. Even then, mimimal handling is recommended or it'll dull.

Great results for display pieces.

So is this the actual gold that's normally required an import from the UK, or is it slightly different and less reliable version (like what we already have)?????

I ordered 2 cans of this and should have it here soon. I will post the results after its use. Anyone who has used this, please post results. As for the dulling...was there a clear coat applied in those cases? How about a clear laquer? Would that work?

Pretty dang chrome-gold, if you ask me..

The paint has a lovely finish, but yeah, it's a HUGE pain in the backside as far as drying goes.

I used it for one of the Screamin' C-3PO model kits, and it looks great, but it still wasn't dry after DAYS - touch it and you'd leave fingerprints. And now that it has finally dried properly, the surface is actually covered in lots of tiny wrinkles. A word to the wise - if you're gonna use it, keep each layer of spray VERY thin.

clear coats are a no-no with this... if you want to retain some chrome effect (*Even mentions on the UK site that clear cote is not recommended for the 'Brilliant Gold' metallic..

****WHAT PAYMENT OPTIONS WERE AVAILABLE ON THAT SITE???

Do you know if they accept credit cards or money orders? (Could look myself, but that's no fun)

Paint results look good to me Mr Le Bon :angel

I have not had a problem with the Plasti-Kote Metallic Gold sold here in the US. It seems to work very well (same slow drying problems), it's cheap, and at Wal-mart, so I can get it whenever I want it. :)

Apparently the difference between "Metallic Gold" and "BRILLIANT Metallic Gold" is somewhat substantial...

Assuming an ingredient thing, with it not being sold direct in the US

I am not sure about other payments, though I would assume that they would accept credit cards.

I too believe that there is a HUGE difference between 'Metallic Gold' and 'BRILLIANT METALLIC GOLD'...

Oh there might be, but what "I said" was that I get good results from what I get here. That "Metallic Gold" works well for me, and while "BILLIANT Metallic Gold" it may be, it is still just paint, and I think it is always going to look like paint. I just don't see a "HUGE" difference with what has been shown here.
I was just replying with what I think is good Gold Chrome paint here in the US (like the title of the thread) regardless Plasti-Kote makes a great product (probably all of them) so good luck with this paint, I hope it works out great for ya. :)
