dont know about his kits but i can tell you that you would have to go out of your way to get lead in your pewter these days
unless he cut it himself
or shopped in china

Congrats on the purchase! Can't wait to see your build up of it. I have the Harford Airsoft that I got not long ago. I'd love to get my hands on a SidKit some day though.

Here's my Hartford....

really with your fingernail?
pewter is almost all tin so it shouldnt be quite that soft
i have this metal... dunno what it is called but it can be melted in a double boiler... real soft stuff .
i make playdoh molds for it.
perhaps that is what the fellow used...... lame in the extreme if that is the case

The original SidKits are pretty soft and brittle, and probably have bismuth in them instead of lead. It is less grey than lead and the whitish powdery oxidation on his metal parts is probably from Tin and the Bismuth. Lead would be a darker grey. It is used in many pewter alloys now to replace lead.

It could also be antimony which expands on cooling and would explain the larger sized metal pieces. It is also used to make pewter as a replacement for lead.

I'd be all over one of these if only Australia didn't have reactive liability based replica gun laws. Sucks a billion to be a prop enthusiast in Australia.

I'm desperate for one of these too. Is it a definite that Customs would object?

I brought a bloody Panzerfaust in as hand luggage once...gone are the days!

Nice!

I worked up a resin Wilco version of the PKD which is OK, but yours looks way nicer.

Someday I'll replace mine with a better one, but for now, it'll work!

You would be lucky to successfully import one of these into Australia. Two years ago I tried to import an MR Hand Solo blaster by the book. Months of back and forth between my local Police, Customs and the Feds. I would obtain an exemption from one body and not the other and kept getting referred back and forth etc. The penalties for infringement now are so high thanks to Howard/Bush terrorist scaremongering that it was not worth the gamble of simply importing by post and crossing fingers. Aust Customs now allegedly have a huge x-ray machine that all parcels are conveyed through, like at airports and Courts. Anything even slightly gun or knife-like is opened. And probably played with by dumbass customs officials. Remember the Airport guy in Sydney a few years ago who lost his job for wearing a mascot Camel head while driving a trolley car? Standard behaviour. For example, in 2005 I bought a few Weta/SS LOTR scaled helmets. I took them as carry on luggage from Sydney to Melbourne. When they went off through the machine at the airport, the guard opened the box of one of them, took it out and advised she had to check with her manager. I watched her walk behind a partition, balance the helmet on top of her head and do a dance. They had a laugh, then she came back and told me they were fine...

I gave up on replica firearms in the end and focused on a lightsaber instead. I'm waiting for the day some Cop tells me it is dangerous as it could be confused with a "real" laser sword.
