Giant 31" Darth Vader figure

Holy frikkety frak!! That was a no-brainer for me!! Amazon one click purchase done!!

I LIKE BIG TOYS!!!!

Got some material for a new cape and inner robe set today, plus after much searching and driving around, the absolutely PERFECT scaled metal mouth mesh! Bought a big sheet from B&Q so enough spare if anybody wants to attempt the same mod.

Got mine today, put him in the corner of the shop for the customers to see :)

I went though a bunch of material in the fabric shop - the assistant was really helpful and a SW fan too, as it turns out, so he knew what I was looking for. We checked out some wools but the weave was just not going to work in 1:3 scale. Finally settled on a felt fabric with a 'wooly' look, if that makes any sense? I got a couple of metres.

PI picked mine up at SDCC for $50 from the company that makes them. I could have had it a few dollars cheaper online, but I wanted instant gratification lol.

Metal mesh fitted inside the helmet.. Very fiddely job!!! The cape chain has been removed to reuse on new cape and inner robe, as thats next on the hitlist.

I'm kicking myself though, as I realised something too late - isn't it always the way? - there was no need to dremel out these areas! A better solution would be to cut the wire mesh into thin strips and place them with a tiny dab of superglue in the "openngs" - with a little care and careful scissor work, it'd be easy to get them to line up, giving the exact appearance of mesh inside the helmet. Anyone else thinking of doing this, that's what I'd recommend.

I could have saved myself 4 hours work! My second techinique is much, much better. With a burning curiosity, I've just spent the last 15 minutes cutting and placing mesh on my spare figure and LOOK! Really easy, no mess, no fuss!

I'm in via amazon as well...definitely mod worthy...who's gonna make the upgraded lighted belt/chestbox parts? Lets get on that too...can't wait to get crankin on mine!

Great job :) cant wai to have a crack at this the scale looks pretty good for 1:3 what do you think?
Is it possible for me to buy some mesh and a piece of cape material from you?
cheers

Hi mate - I'll send you some mesh for free.

The cape material - think it was around a tenner for a couple of metres. I can get some for you, no worries, suggest we hang fire until my cape set is finished to ensure you like the results?

Chest armour mod - I've got rid of the unsightly arm joints and repainted the armour, it just needs a clear coat.

My tape measure seems to have walked, so can't give you the exact helmet dimensions right now...

You know, I saw two or three of these at the toy store the other day and didn't give them much of a look. When I saw them, I wasn't too impressed but they were down on the bottom shelf and didn't look as good with me looking down on them.

By the way, a quick tip for you guys planning to modify - Belt removal - there's a glued-in rubber dowel under the buckle, it comes away with a tiny bit of heat and some good old fashioned brute force.

I saw one of those at CE2, but I think with a bit of a markup, so I passed. But now ... now ... now ... no ... no ... no ...
