Ghostbusters jumpsuit - which one?

With GBProps.com down right now I don't know of anywhere else to look for this info... Google's not helping because it's flooded with GB costumes & not replicas.

Anyone know what the accepted flight suit is or have links? Also, what gray to use to dye it?

Many thanks...

As always, it depends on how much you want to drop on the table.

The best of the best is from flightsuits.com; who made the GB2 suits, with patches from AJ at GBProps, or a personlized nametag from eBay seller kattara8. Weuther you go cheap or hyperpricey, you'll have to dye your suit to match your movie/preference.

The boots can be easily obtained at any surplus shop, as finising the actual Veitnam era ones are very hard to get. They are Paratrooper high top boots with the side zipper

The belt, bubble elbow pads (judo knee pads), leg hose, keyrings, black chem gloves, etc. are all available all over, from the GBProps Shop, to eBay, to Amazon, etc.

Harder peices, like the Lifeguard, Circuit board, MT-500 radio, and leg hose & connector will be the largest hurdle. Most pieces that exist out there are either way over priced, inaccurate, or both.

For the completest at heart, an irrcainian trap holster , gloves, and a light weight stunt trap are the way to go, if you don't want to hual a pack all con/party long.

Good luck on your costume! There's alot of other options out there, have fun hunting!

Flightsuit sells a paratrooper boot that is close but not exact. Basically this year model paratrooper boot.

They are not cheap ($165 a pair) but they are fantastic and very comfortable.

Their jumpsuit is $275. I first had a $50 internet jumpsuit it was crap. The Flightsuits is super comfy. But you need to ask them to leave off the pocket flap on the left upper arm to be "right". I thought the pocket flap was better to leave on. There are so many variances in the GB jumpsuits. Accurate is in the preferences.

If you do break down and order a suit from Flightsuits Ltd. just make sure you specify brass zippers and the storm flap. If you don't, then you'll get an expensive suit that looks just like the cheapo suits, which has nylon zippers and no storm flap.

I ordered one a few years back and it's very nice quality (poly/cotton twill fabric) but I wasn't completely happy with the overall look. I could have returned it for a refund but I kept it anyway.

If I put another suit together, I'll go with the standard military flightsuit - the CWU-27/P.

Just my 2 cents.

Absolutely flightsuits.

I went in and had one fitted personally as they are only about 15 miles away from me.

Gotcha. What's a "storm flap".

Also if I'm dyeing to the gray... what color do I start with? Olive or Kakhi (or something else)?

Khaki . . .use pearl grey rit dye to get it jusssstt right. I wish there was a formula or something, but it's dependant on water, washer, etc. i just dyed mine slowy, and after a few washes, had a nice color.

I'm not sure which suit to start with for the darker grey GB2 suit.

The problem I see with comparing things to a the screen used stuff is, they are OLD and have probably faded over the years. Ever held an original Star Trek tunic in your hands? They look nothing like what you would expect.

To me they look khaki IN the film to me. Not always but still.

Ideally all the 'busters in your group should be the same color. Whatever one you choose.

Plus add in the fact they simply have different colored suits IN character as shown in the second film. You basically can get away with whatever you want.

The biggest problem, that adds the most confusion, is the original film had a purple tint (deliberatly no less), and it threw all the coloring off, from the bluish black tint of the packs, to the grey of the flightsuits. While this transfered okay to the first DVD, the newest (greenslime art) is a whited up version, which makes everything look washed out. You can really see the dyeing in that version. Think tie-dyed flightsuits (hotel entrance).

One of the best pieces of proof is the great series of photos taken for Time magazine. These are the New York suits, and are the best looking of the two types; LA being the other.

TO get a great look at this, head here: http://www.ernie-hudson.com/store.html

Even in the thumbnails, you can see the differences in color from GBer to GBer. If you want, pick up a copy of that stairwell Time photo. They're printed from the original negs, and are flawless in every detail. Every flaw on that front pack's visible.

You can always tell the difference in suits by where they are in the films too. A solid example being the final battle. Outdoors and pretty, New York. Busted street, and inside, LA. You can also tell by the circuit boards on their belts, and the condition of Danny's Ecto goggles :lol.
Heck, even the Elbow pads are different from GBer to GBer.

While GBProp.com is about to upload a gazillion great photos, noone's actually complied a definate list of differences. One of the ugly side effects of GB propping is that a 'its good enough' attitude prevails . . .

Your best bet for total accuracy, is pick a scene, disect with help, and go with it!

Looking forward to your results!!

Avoid both of those. EBay seller captainamerica has very bad feedback in the prop community. Buying from him is essentially rolling the dice. While I hear that his product is OK, it's a gamble weather you will get your items in a week, 6 months, or even at all! I'd avoid him as there are other, more reliable ways of getting a suit.

Search for army surplus or used "Tan Nomex Flight Suits." You'll have to find out what size you wear.

As stated above, grab your patches from AJ over at www.gbfans.com in the shop or on eBay via member katarra8. Both are highly recommended.

As far as dying and weather or not it's necessary, well... it's still a debate... that's totally up to you when you get the flight suit in your hands.

but just so you know the fabric in the GB2 suits was supplied by the studio and it wont have that pattern in it if you order from flightsuits LTD. And the original suits were made from "rip stop" not nomex

I'm still trying to decide what suit to buy myself and once I get it whether I should dye it or not???? Oh..questions....I'll soon have to find an answer to.

Gotcha. What's a "storm flap".

Didn't see this answered but it's the small flap that tucks behind and under the zipper so that wind can't penetrate the zipper...

IMO the best suit right now (baring a custom job) is a surplus Nomex tan, they can be had on Ebay for very reasonable... I gave mine a quick grey dye bath not to change the color or dye it grey, but instead to kill the 'orange' hues in the suit... I'm talking a quick bath, Nomex doesn't dye easily and I only left it in for a few minutes, the color shift is VERY minimal and it doesn't look 'grey' at all, but to my eye it toned down the 'orange' hues just enough...

FYI

And the original suits were made from "rip stop" not nomex

Rip Stop is a weaving pattern, Nomex is a type of fiber... Two different things...
