Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Yeah I think so Kylash, and the wings are exact.. the led light is bleeding through the back of the wings too..

I think they did use it as a base.. maybe it’s the angle?!

But even the green screen sits behind the hood

Matty hood is flush

This was the only gripe the fans had with the Matty that the recess and hood (along with the buttons) was off. Everything else is amazing..

The PKE has a new "taser" functionality for ghosts. If you've watched the German trailer is shows the Ecto-Goggles have a Poloraid camera integrated now.

Honestly, seeing the trailer has gotten my hopes up. I suspect that they're using an abandoned concept from the original film when it comes to what's causing the earthquakes and the green light from below the mineshaft. From what I remember, one of the concepts that was not used in the film had the Ghostbusters using an underground off-site facility to store ghosts, and that to access it, they would go through what appeared to be an abandoned gas station. Maybe what has been causing those quakes and the green light underground is from a containment facility. And the reason why it's been quaking and letting loose spirits is because it hasn't been maintained for years after Egon's death, and now the grid is on the verge of a massive rupture (think of what happened in the first film when the grid was shut off, only bigger).

I think they're including the events of the Ghostbusters video game as a part of the film's canon. I say that because Paul Rudd's character says, "There hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years." If the film takes place in 2020, 30 years would put the last time anyone saw a ghost in the 1990s, in which the video game takes place in Thanksgiving of 1991. I could be wrong on that hypothesis.

Hearing part of Peter's "go into business for ourselves" speech brought a smile to my face too. In addition to the fact we get to see Egon's spores, mold and fungus collection. I have hope that this will be good, ladies and gentlemen. I have hope!

I looked at Rudds comment as a basic rounding up. I do the same thing when I bring up basic history. 19-21 years can easily translate to about 20 years ago... so unless they say definitively that the video game is no longer canon; it's still canon..

Let's see...

This trailer has:
Younger generation taking up the mantle
Original cast nowhere to be seen and appear to have minimal roles
An heirloom belonging to a forgotten legend is found
Halfway through we see the younger generation taking a wild ride in a classic vehicle
New villains are barely glimpsed
Audio clip from the original movie overlaid in the trailer

Hmmmmm where have I seen this before?

Yup...

I remember saying the same thing here on the RPF back before the first movie came out in '84..

"Let's see... We've got Bill Murray playing the exact same lovable loser that's 'too cool for school' that he plays in EVERYTHING!

A genius nerd that talks technobabble that goes over everyone's head.

Your classic (or should we say stereotypical trope) smart -*** New York secretary.

A bunch of ex-SNL/SCTV players that couldn't carry a movie if it had handles on it.

The first word spoken in the trailer is "Ghosts" , the word "Ghost" is in the title, but we barely get a glimpse of what looks like a sheet hanging from some fishing line, popping up from a Subway.

I guess they're going to drag Sigourney Weaver's Fame & reputation through the mud, just to get in on that ALIEN hype.

There's even a line about Murray being the Chairman of the group that I bet won't even be in the final film.

If this is the best they can do... Tired ideas that we've seen before in your FIRST TRAILER that's supposed to get butts into seats?

No thank you."

Just kidding around. I'm hyped for this but I do see the story beats you mentioned.

Friend of mine said the trailer looks like Tremors meets The Force Awakens...:D
I’m cautious (haven’t seen 2016, and generally have zero interest in 30+ yrs old franchises anymore) but funnily my first thoughts were “this looks like a real movie”. I’m still not sure why I thought that. Brain, wtf...

Totally looks like a real movie compared to GB 2016. They are respecting the source material. Seems to me the Ghostbusters shut down years ago, Egon took all the equipment and moved out to the country. The other Ghostbusters have probably moved on with their lives in other aspects and will probably show up at some point to help out and pass the torch. Something happened and the mother kept the whole "Ghostbusters" part of their family history from the kids, which is why they don't seem to know about their connection to it.

Exactly my point!! Why the hell did she never tell the kids about her their grandfathers success?!

Did he just die and leave them the house, or did he leave her the house and she never took care of it?

Now being evicted it’s all she’s got?!

So many questions

People in Ghostbusters 2 find the events in the 1st movie hard to believe and it's the same city! It is not hard to believe that a parent "forgets" to tell her kids that their grandparent was "chasing ghosts" his whole life. If they were especially driven maybe that did not agree with the kid and she drifts away from their "kooky parent" and move on with their life.

Pretty believable background to me.

So I'm wondering if the "no ghosts for 30 years" is maybe the reason they went out of business?

It just kinda hit me that, if the Ghostbusters are doing their job, they're effectively putting themselves out of business. There's always a big bad that's causing the spike in paranormal activity, with an ever increasing threat level. Once they identify, confront, & vanquish the cause, normally, there goes the business.

Just wondering if this is how things played out.

You being serious ?

Yes. The Hasbro toy list that just came out actually confirmed this too. I guess we'll see how it plays out in the movie. They'll be things old fans hate for sure trust me, but not anything like 16.

The IMDB keeps listing Winston as Dr. Zeddemore, which is from the Video Game, so we'll see if it's canon or not.

From

"a brief shot shows Phoebe and her classmate approaching the entrance to an old mine. They probably should have paid closer attention to those "ROAD CLOSED" and "NO TRESPASSING" signs — but there's another sign in the distance, one which we, the viewers, would do well to pay very close attention to.

It reads "Shandor Mining Co.," and if you love Ghostbusters like we do, this name will set off all sorts of alarms. As explained by Spengler to the rest of the Ghostbusters when they were jailed after their containment unit was shut down and all hell broke loose, Ivo Shandor wasn't just a mining magnate — he was an arhcitect, the very same one who designed the skyscraper in which Dana Barrett (Signourney Weaver) lived, the building referred to by Stantz as "Spook Central."

Spengler continued to break down for his horrified comrades that Shandor, a real Renaissance man, was also a doctor who "performed a lot of unnecessary surgeries," and the head of a secret society which worshiped Gozer the Gozerian, the ancient evil entity which was threatening the Big Apple with utter destruction at that very moment. You know, it takes a lot of materials to build a skyscraper — materials which may just have been mined from this very location with the end goal of unleashing Gozer upon the world."

I know some people are totally bummed that this isn't yet again another "Save New York, save the world" story. I'm THRILLED it's set in a small town and it reminds me of the RGB cartoon where they'd go out into the country to fight ghosts too. I don't even mind it being kids discovering the Ghostbusters stuff, BUT I do think they'd probably fry themselves messing with the equipment without adult supervision. Hopefully Paul Rudd ends up being part of a new "team". I REALLY don't want to see the original guys in it for only 5 minutes and I REALLY want to see a beefy role for Winston. One of my FAVORITE parts in GB is when Winston busts into the dark room to say Ray and Egon. Loved that! Winston is so underrated and under used in the films.
