Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Just watched. Caught me off guard how serious and dramatic the vibe is.
Jeez. Maybe they thought they could never be as funny as the original so don't try?
I mean it's cool to see respect for the past but man, Ghostbusters was fun because it was so damn brilliantly funny
and original. I wasn't afraid of no ghosts. LOL

My wife thinks this is made for the Stranger Things crowd.

So... How did the Ecto-1a revert back to the Ecto-1? And how did the ladder end up on the other side?

So... if they never finished the scene... is it canon?

How did the ladder swap sides? Don't give me this "Egon decided to swap it because, like, he preferred the other side." I need REAL answers! :D

I think it’s swapped because of the new gunner seat

Nice! Glad Reitman is thinking of that sort of thing.

Now it's got me wondering. What the hell was Egon doing still modifying the Ecto-1(a) after Ghostbusters has gone out of business? Yeah, he built a massive secret underground ghost storage lair, but why add a gunner's seat to the Ecto? I hope they cover this in the movie :/

Dude my mind has been running the same questions for 24 hours now, I’m so god dang excited for this!

Agreed.

And as far as tone, I see a lot of people mentioning Ghostbusters was a comedy first, a ghost movie second, and this seems to have an entirely different tone. And that's a problem why? I dont think every sequel needs to match the tone and feeling of the first, try different things, keep it interesting. I like that this has more of a smaller, creepy, digging through an antique store vibe.
I'm totally fine with them being in a small town. Screw NYC. But the part that still bothers me is the tone. The first two movies were, first and foremost, comedies. They were funny. Sure, they had scary parts and moderately serious parts, but they were comedic before all else. There is nothing in this trailer that says this movie will be funny at all. You can do that in a small town setting. You can do that with kids. But without it, this simply isn't Ghostbusters. It's just an attempt at mindless nostalgia. That doesn't mean it might not be a good movie, but just because you throw a bunch of props and Ecto-1 into the mix, that doesn't make it a worthy successor to the original classics.

Interesting. I'd always though of them being a ghost movie first and a comedy movie second. I think you could strip the comedy from both of the first movies and you'd still have a good movie about ghosts. But I don't think you could strip the sci-fantasy out and have a good comedy left.

The tone of the trailer may just be a marketing thing - a reaction to the over-the-top humour of the 2016 version. But personally I'm hoping for a ghost movie with some wise-ass deadpan humour sprinkled on top - like the originals.

The Ghostbusters game has a pretty easy answer: after getting their license back in GB2, they swapped out the doors and back hatch to include the Ghost flashing the 2 (or in this case, the V for Victory hand gesture). After the events of GB2, they swapped the doors and back hatch again. There's nothing saying they didn't change the layout of the gear on top to address any kind of additional equipment they used after the events of the GB video game (before you say it's not canon, keep this in mind: Paul Rudd's character says it's been "30 years" since the last ghost sighting. If the film is set in 2020, the year it's released, 30 years would be in the 1990s, with the GB game taking place in 1991). Moving the ladder for the gunner seat is proof of changing the layout to accommodate gear and equipment as Halliwax presented.

As for why Egon modified the Ecto-1 after the events of Ghostbusters 2 (as well as the GB video game), it could be possible the gunner seat was installed before the company closed down, but after the events of the film and the game (unless they've decided to add The Real Ghostbusters as canon, which the gunner seat turned up there IIRC. It's been some time since I last saw the animated series).

One story rumor I heard was that Egon came to this town to investigate the stuff going on and that he had continued to work on the gear like the Ecto on his own and ended up in over his head.

Since the Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A are different cars in reality, and different variations of the Miller Meteor coach, maybe they made the decision to finally say they are indeed 2 different cars.

It actually wouldn't be that wierd for him to continue working on it even with no more ghostbusters. Most of it was originally designed before ghostbusters, the original premise was that this is just the sort of thing Egon and Ray spend time on.

I had the toy Ecto when I was little. For some reason I am thinking it had a gunner seat on it. Or did the cartoon version have one? I will activate the Google machine.

That would actually make perfect sense! I can see Egon doing exactly that. Very excited to find out more. The whole project and trailer just oozes potential to be the sequel that the fans have been waiting!

I think egon saw something coming on the Horizon and obsessed over it.. slowly tweaked the tech over the years, made the bunker..

He’s also got huge storage takes.. and I mean the HUGE tanks on his property.. wonder what that’s all about..

He was planning on something happening and was getting ready for it..

I just hope his death wasn’t because of this thing he saw coming and was of natural reasons..

Maybe the tanks are the new ghost containment unit?

Good possibility, there is a container of looks to be slime on the shelf.. maybe mood slime he never stopped sleeping with?

Also a theory the containment unit is in the hole the kids are swinging over

I don’t get that feeling, I think the demons/ghost are coming from the cracks in the mine..

I don’t want to go into too much detail of my theory’s, can’t say theory because it’s just stuff from the last script. Don’t want to spoil anything for anyone
