Sometime ago, I was contracted to create a "working office phone" similar to the one that was on Kevin's desk.
There was to be an office scene (Kevin's Set) with many of the items seen in the film including the same model phone used
on Kevin's desk set up in a Mall to promote the movie.

The gimmick was, the phone needed to ring every 10 minutes or so to see if passer buyers would answer it.
It would ring about 5 times and then go into another 10 minute cycle.
If at anytime, for what ever reason, someone were to pick up the receiver, there would be a recorded message (one of five).
