Genre.

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

No; not really. The "blip identity" is getting off on the swirl of info. You remember the kids in grade school who would whang at hornet's nests just to see the commotion? Same thing.

Ya, I was one of those kids actually! :lol

Grew out of it though...

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

Hey, CTF: would you call The Searchers a Western? Would you call the "blip identity" a sockpuppet? Would you call wetness falling from the sky "rain"? Burned sugar "caramel"? Would you call "six of one" a "half dozen of the other"?

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

It's just a silly post about a silly question to help me write a story.

A discussion about Genre will not help you write a story. Quite the opposite, it will stagnate it.

A discussion on what makes a story compelling is perhaps what you want. Something that cuts through all the crap and gets right to what you really want to know. Good storytelling is universal and doesn't have anything to do with what "type" of movie Raiders is.

One thread.

To the point.

"What makes a good story".

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

To be honest, from the context that I first heard the name in, I thought it was about a group of sixties (mod) teenagers wandering across America looking to find themselves.

All I can say is: more movies, less threads.

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

Oh don't worry. It'll be cleared up!

Re: Genre, is there any such thing, really?

Past, that's "Blip" backwards.

I thought it was apt, since this thread's going 'round and 'round in circles.
