I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this.
Saw the film at the cinema today and enjoyed it, I would maybe have preferred it trimmed down to a 2 hour film but otherwise it was a solid genre film with a cool take on this well worn road in the horror franchise.

I really liked it. The music was beautiful, especially the Irish music.

My main concern going in -- knowing the premise -- was to please, please not make the vampirism a blunt metaphor for white-on-black racism. And, well, it does do that a little. But, unlike a lot of movies these days it does multiple things with the metaphor. It develops and changes the symbolism as the story progresses. You know, like a movie. It starts off being about how white people crave and want to steal vibrant black culture, but it also is about the promise of a post-racial culture, the temptation of selling out as an artist, and how selling out a little may be necessary to find an audience. (I can't help but think that that part is autobiographical since Coogler started indie and now makes huge blockbuster movies.)

Anyway, it's really good. Go see it.

Haven't seen it yet, but my daughter saw it was night and texted me this:
"Dad. MUSICAL VAMPIRES. You MUST see this movie."

Ironically, being a huge horror fan, I thought this was fantastic up until it became a horror film. The scope of it, the characters and yes the music was incredible, I just felt the build up and mystery that made the first 2 acts so good just became another vampire film at the end. Not bad, just anticlimactic.

Anyway, Now that i no longer live in the middle of nowhere and now 20 mins from 1/8 theaters in the US that has the capability, I’ll be seeing it again next week in 70mm.

I’m so glad I found a page for this film. It was INCREDIBLE! I’m currently searching for Remmick’s costume pieces and I’d like some help finding his pants, shirt, and belt if anyone has any helpful sources. The only accurate piece I found were the same suspenders they used for him and luckily snagged those, but no luck on the shirt or pants. I attached a few pics of reference below!

I watched this last night based on everyone saying to see it. I thought it was average and that is being gracious. I like all the actors in it, it just took too long to get going. It was about an hour in before vampires show up. It reminded me a little of Dusk Till Dawn, but it took too long to get to vampires and then that was wrapped up too quickly.
