Generation Kill

Who has seen Generation Kill? The HBO miniseries following Marines into Iraq at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I just finished watching it last night and I thought the whole thing was spectacular. Anyone else have thoughts? [don't let the discussion become political]

I wish it was longer, one of my favorite shows. I loved all the characters, great pace of action, overall just a fantastic show.

I enjoyed it as well. I know one of the guys portrayed in the series, we worked together in Iraq. Some of the scenery is really close to Iraq and Baghdad.

I've read the book and watched it. I'm kind of confused about what actually happened though because there are several people from that unit that came out and said it wasn't what happened. Plus Rolling Stone isn't the pinnacle of fairness towards the U.S. military nowadays.

I thought it was very well done, I have also read the book and the series is pretty faithful to it. I also read Nathan Fick's book.

The series is just so well done. it's the most dead-on portrayal of what it's really like being there, with only a few minor exaggerations for the purpose of the viewer.
Does anyone know where it was shot? As Leatherneck said, that's really very much what it looks like, the greenery and trees around irrigation canals as opposed to open desert everywhere (At least where I was, more to the West around Fallujah and Habbaniya)
