Hi everyone, long time reader first time poster here.

I've been wanting to start sculpting with super sculpey recently and I have a few questions about how to go about it correctly.

First with the wire armature and it's wooden base - when baking the sculpture, what wood would be safe to put into an oven if any. What should I use for a base for the armature when baking otherwise?

I'm going to be using an oven which is also used for food to bake my super sculpey - i'm going to put it into a roasting bag - would this work to protect the oven from the nasties?

Many thanks for your time.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I don't have an answer for you since I've never worked with Sculpy but I do have a suggestion.
Head over to the Club House forum, there is an entire section devoted to sculpting using Sculpy, Epoxy Putty, Wax and other mediums.

Many of the folks there sculpt professionally.

I'm not aware of any nastyness off gassing from polymer clay, but then again...I don't know everything about it. A wood base should be fine(keep your eye on it),but a metal one would be better like aluminum plate or steel. The baking instructions on the super sculpy box are not acurate. They will not yield 'thorough" curing results. William Paquet(amongst many other pros) lower the temperature and bake their sculptures for far longer periods (hours).I also don't know what will/can happen if you put your finished piece in an oven bag?Maybe something bad, maybe nothing? I'm not 100% sure.
