General molding question...

Hi

I´m planning to make a silicone mold of a CA dome and a custom chest armor, which I´d like to modify for a costume project. Problem is, that I don´t have a clue how to create this mold since I want to keep the thickness of the edges as part of the mold...does this make any sense?

(sorry, don´t have any grafics program right now to explain what I mean)

Do I have to attach some kind of "lip" around the edges of the dome/ armor...if so, how?
Anyone who has pics of their armor/ dome molds and WIP shots how they created them?

Many thanks, Markus

Markus,

Watch the video on the Star Wars Original Trilogy DVD set "extras" disc about the making of the new Vader suit. The helmet was cast using an inner and outer mold, with a glove mold underneath, to acomplish just what you're describing.

I´ve seen the footage, but I don´t plan to use a glove mold like they did for the ROTS Vader helmet.

So I have to create a "lip" out of sculpey/ clay or something???

Markus
