General Hux Costume Research Thread

Hello everyone!

For my Hux project, I finally have bought some Ottoman fabric.

Here are some pictures of the fabric (I'm sorry for the blurness, my phone camera is getting old...)

Without flash:

With my hand as a scale for the size of the crests of the fabric:

And with my custom-embroidered First Order patch ;)

As you can see, Ottoman fabric, as a 100 % polyester fabric, is very bright under strong lighting.

Looks good, would you be able to post a link?

Just a bit of information.

I was calculating the size of the belt buckle for Hux, and given the photo references, and my own work on my costume (photos to come along soon, don't worry).

I would go for about 5 cm width by 11 cm length size.
Ratio is roughly 1:2 given the photos, which is larger than regular empire belt buckles.

BTW if anyone is looking for Ottoman or Bengaline fabric, I ended up having extra yardage I never used. Let me know if you're interested!

For the hats, do we think using the same fabric as the tunic is the way to go? Or a duller fabric? I've been experimenting a bit with both but not sure which I prefer yet.

For me, the hat is a different "slicker" fabric. It may be the same as the collar, which is also different from the rest of the jacket.

That's what I was wondering too....so hard to tell in the limited images we have lol.

For the back of the greatcoat, has anyone found a good pattern? There aren't many images that I've found and I have the Black Series figure which helps as a start visually, but it definitely seems like it has fabric folded over at a downward diagonal that meets at the center. Not even quite sure how to describe it lol. And then another layer of fabric underneath that splits down the center? (to allow freedom of movement etc)

The back of the great coat should be very similar to the back of the jacket : princess seams on the side, and a central seam that splits about at the heigth of the hips.
A funny way to get info is also to look at the Lego minifigures: I used a FO officer minifigure to figure out the back of the jacket before having confirmation from stills of the movie itself.

Just watched the movie again today and the Black Series figure has the right design on the back (yay! Thank god hah! It's great when we can find action figures and lego figures that help!) One of the scenes when he's talking to Snoke and wearing hte jacket, when he turns and walks away you can see the angles on the back. I think I'm going to end up doing a double layer in the bottom half, do a test run. I'll post photos once I do and let you guys know if that seems to work!

Gotta love those princess seams lol

Also, looked at the hats super close while watching the movie and it looks like the material might actually match that of the greatcoat, maybe a light wool?

Does the coat really have epaulettes? Anyone have a still of it?
I think I'm going to use wool/cashmere for the coat.

Thanks!

Yup. I was watching everything super closely this time around and there's a downward shot when he's speaking to Snoke that definitely shows those. Similar to how his tunic is.

My coat is a medium-weight wool and I LOVE it, it flows and hangs properly and it actually keeps its structure really well. Will post photos later!

So, based on the figure, can you tell me how is the bottom of the back? Is it open like a classic costume to helm movements, or is the seam running till the bottom?

Hi guys!

Sorry for double posting :/
Here is a schematic I made to recap belt measurements, along with two fairly good pics of said belt.

Has anyone on this thread found really good boots, because I'm cosplaying Hux for ECCC and still can't find perfect boots
thanks

I've been looking as well. So far, no luck unless I get someone to alter a pair of boots I'm thinking of getting. They would need new soles.

Would there be interest in a run of cold cast resin buckles for Hux's belt? Just wondering if it's something to even consider.

I might have found some, the mainstay though are Womens Zip up boots, because of the flat soles without a heel, and just the look

Yes, the ones I'm considering are the FRYE Women's Melissa Harness Inside-Zip Boot[/h]the harness would have to be removed and the sole switched to a flat one. The zipper would also need a strip of leather to conceal it. But the essential elements of a riding boot with the cuff, side zipper, no front seam. Run a search on amazon.com to see.

I am no professional, just a mum making costumes for her teenage boys. Have found this really helpful and after many many hours I finally got the General Hux uniform done, along with a Kylo Ren. Thanks for your help image.jpeg
