General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

I've thought of making one that same size. Maybe 1/6...

It'd be easy to model, print it via shapeways and voila - instant kit :)

The mailbox we inherited when we bought our house SUCKS. On my list of things to do is make a Tardis that would essentially be a shell to house a mailbox. I will definitely need help scaling the plans.

Mailbox would be around 1/2 scale. Real one is what? 7-8' tall? 1/2 scale would be 3.5-4.

If I ever model it, it'd be a matter of minutes to adjust it to any scale.

Well, get modeling! :) I have the blueprints. Been a while since I looked but I thought to the top of the lantern it was 9'-10'. I really can't remember though.

I think you are about right for a standard mailbox to fit inside one. I'd have the sign door open up to reveal the mailbox.

So many ideas, so little time.

Wow! I wonder how they will use him. It's been 31 years since he's been the Doctor and he's not exactly a young man anymore...

I am a little nervous though. I hope Tom is well served in this episode. He's still got the voice but he's no longer the tall spry young man he once was. Honestly if it's going to be like Hartnell in the Three Doctors I'd rather not I think...

Speaking of Hartnell I still have that 500 year diary I wanted to work on... :love

I'd seen before where he'd contacted the powers that be and said he'd like to be a part of the 50th anny if they'd have him.

I hope they get as many of the former guys as possible. It'd be great to see them all again. I'm delusional, I know, but it'd be nice to have a nice stretched out arc with each getting to shine again on their own (in random order to keep you guessing) and then all together in a finale'. Like I said, delusional :)

CGI can do amazing things. They'll figure out something.

"Rumours indicate the half century landmark for the long-running show could also be 29-year-old Matt's last."

Why in hell does every single article on anything even tangentially realated to do with DW, any of its spin offs, anyone involved in any way with the BBC or UK TV or even an article on the weather in the UK have to include at least one sentence about Matt Smith leaving the show? Is there some sort of secret hatred the Brits have for him that they're too British to express? I mean seriously WT Freakin' F?

That would be quite special if done right. :thumbsup

As a person who works in CGI on a daily basis... Yes & no.

In the second Tron they got away with it in the digital world because it was understandable that it wouldn't be perfect. In that scene in the beginning it didn't quite work.

Also the budget we're dealing with is VASTLY lower than Tron's was. It's a lot of money to get CGI like that that really works and sells itself.

That's the thing with Doctor Who now and I remember it with both Eccleston & Tennant. It's not that they don't like him but that everyone is curious as to when it will change. It would be a perfect time for a transfer as well but I'm good either way, Smith works for me now, especially when River's not around.

I'm hoping that the new companion, being a genius and all, will bring about shades of the relationship 4 had with Romana. There was a lot I liked about Amy and Rory (above and beyond the fact that she is very, very, very easy on the eyes) but change, being the only constant, is good.

As long as there isn't a romantic vibe. That gets old REALLY quick. A lot of folks didn't like her but I liked the relationship Donna had with the Doctor. If we could get that in another character that would be great. :thumbsup

Agreed, Donna was easily my favorite companion. :thumbsup
