CGI can do amazing things. They'll figure out something.
"Rumours indicate the half century landmark for the long-running show could also be 29-year-old Matt's last."
Why in hell does every single article on anything even tangentially realated to do with DW, any of its spin offs, anyone involved in any way with the BBC or UK TV or even an article on the weather in the UK have to include at least one sentence about Matt Smith leaving the show? Is there some sort of secret hatred the Brits have for him that they're too British to express? I mean seriously WT Freakin' F?
First, re: the CGI -- I don't think it'd be necessary. I don't know if you guys remember or saw it, but there was a point during the Tennant years, I think between his last "season" and the "specials", where he ran into the 5th Doctor. The 5th and 10th were both in the TARDIS at the same time, babbling to each other and whatnot. As I recall, they both reached the conclusion that #5 was "older" because of some time warping thing. So, right there, we have the groundwork for why #4 would look "older" if encountering #11 AS the Doctor.
Another option could be that he's just someone the Doctor meets, and maybe we get a "You know....you look
very familiar to me..." moment or somesuch. I'm still curious how they're going to handle the "new" new companion, so maybe it'll have something to do with that.
I'm hoping that the new companion, being a genius and all, will bring about shades of the relationship 4 had with Romana. There was a lot I liked about Amy and Rory (above and beyond the fact that she is very, very, very easy on the eyes) but change, being the only constant, is good.
Yeah, see, I'm DONE with the romantic stuff. That aspect of the 11/Amy relationship got old, and I'm glad they toned it down and brought Rory in. Although I find Rory to be a bit "Mickey-esque" after a while in terms of his hapless, henpecked nature. I mean, I get that Amy's Scottish and all, but come on.
I like it better when the Doctor and his companions are equals who complement each other, rather than when the companion is a "But Doctor, what does it all mean? Oh save me! I'm trapped by Daleks! Oh thank you, Doctor. I luuuuuuurv you. >swoon<" type.
I get that the producers always need someone who plays the audience's role so that we get a little exposition, but you could just as easily play with that by having them land on a planet and the scene goes like this:
DOCTOR: "Ahh, here we are! Look around you...the lush blue forests, the vaulting Zylox Dynasty architecture of that tower over there, why it must be--"
COMPANION: "Yes, Phelan-5. But that's actually pre-dynastic architecture, Doctor. You can tell by the crenelations. See? The gold trim?"
DOCTOR: "....You know, you really are no fun whatsoever."
COMPANION: "Oh, cheer up. You can tell me all about the local fauna if you like."
