General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

I'll just leave this here...

Amazon.com: Doctor Who: Series 1-7 Limited Edition Blu-ray Giftset: Movies & TV

There's going to have to be some pretty good extras on 1-4 to get me to re-purchase these. Since they were all recorded digitally in SD, i really cant see where the HD picture is going to come from.

EDIT:Life, Doctor Who & Combom: Eccleston, Tennant and Smith All In One High Definition Boxset?

Pretty much sums up my thoughts & fears.

I did notice that, unless series 1 is obscured by the top of the window packaging, there doesn't seem to be a case for the Tennant specials.

That's what you get when you do it fast :) I only had about 30 secs to get it posted before having to run.

So sorry....

Still, if you don't have them on DVD or BR at this point, it IS a good deal.

No problem. LOL

I couldn't believe that no one had posted about it when I did. Then it seemed like nobody really cared. Now, if the discussion had EXPLODED after your post, then I'd have been pissed.(kidding)

So yesterday I saw HMV was having DW Cosplay contest, texted my wife to enter a photo, contest closed, and they just tweeted that we won!

Looks like we will have the NEW DOCTOR revealed officially on Sunday.

If it is Capaldi....and it seems to look that way, that's awesome.

Love that he's older. 55. Same age as Hartnell when he started it all.

Also, Capaldi was just in World War Z. His role: "W.H.O. Doctor".

Love it. This fills me with much happiness.

Was told by a BBC 'insider' tonight that it's Daniel Rigby, star of the UK's inane BT adverts. I pray it ain't so, but has a ring of truth...he's very Moffat :unsure

I'm kinda over the tween-targeted Doctors. I mean, Tennant and Smith played the role well. No argument there. But I wouldn't mind seeing a middle-aged guy take it over for a bit. Likewise, a male companion along with the crew would be nice, and not just as a bumbling doofus the way they seem to be played nowadays.

I couldn't agree more.

I agree as well.

I'm fairly sure I wouldn't want them to cast a well-known or "big-name" actor. Plus, I just can't picture Capaldi going from his foul-mouth, Thick of it tirades, to engaging with little children at cons.

I'd rather have an unknown, but.... having said that, if they did want to go with a big name, I still say any of those that played the Doctor in The Curse of Fatal Death could do it well. Richard E. Grant is out, by way of having (sorta) already been the Doctor (in the Shalka webisode) and also a prominent bad-guy. But any of the others: Jim Broadbent, Rowan Atkinson, Joanna Lumley, even Hugh Grant, could do the role justice. Also, on the subject of Fatal Death - Jonathan Pryce made a pretty good Master IMHO

If it is Capaldi, I'd be super happy. Not only did I like him in Fires of Pompeii (second ep season 4) playing Lucius Caecilius Iucundus but he's not a friggin teen!! Kim and I have always wanted some one like Anthony Stewart Head to play the Doctor...

Oh my lord, Capaldi would be perfect, I'm guessing we'll get a 25ish year old up and comer, I hope I am wrong, boy do I hope!

I think the prevailing theory is "young-ish Doctor, younger-ish female companion" to maximize the tween and female viewership. They know they've got the guys by virtue of the sci-fi angle, but I think they still want the dynamic of an attractive, young doctor with an attractive, young female companion, and the occasional hanger-on (e.g. Mickey).

Yeah, I can't see how the suits will let anything else pass. But I hope I'm wrong. All that aside, I am once again impressed at Moffat's ability to keep a secret in the 2st century. However it plays out, well done.
