Gender Bender Avengers Halloween! *helm up*

ohaidere! yep, gender bender avengers for halloween this year. kinda excited, i won't lie :rolleyes

i figured i'd go ahead and get a progress thread going here, i will do my best to commit to this project and update at least semi-regularly. my star wars costume is on hold for a while, so i hope i can manage this. anyway, details.

i, very much a male, will be going as black widow, and 2 of my friends' girlfriends (forever alone :unsure) will be iron man and thor. as of right now, i've started on a foam iron man bucket for E, and will probably, hopefully, be doing other armor bits for her, though it will not be a full suit because she wants to use the "halloween is my excuse to be kinda slutty" card. so i'm thinkin' partial chest/back with arc, 1 or 2 gloves with repulsors, and half to 3/4 thighs. the rest she can do on her own. i don't think i'll be costuming L's thor, she'll probably buy somethin' on her own.

oh, hey side-note: for the bucket i'm using 2 ply foamie sheets. "wtf?" you say. simply put, i took two 2mm foamie sheets, bombarded each with spray adhesive, and stuck 'em together. i'm still cutting the pieces out so i haven't started gluing or anything, but so far these things are a dream to work with. yes, i realize you can probaby buy 4mm foam, but i didn't have any or any access to it, so i made do. and i'm quite pleased thus far :rolleyes. i'll post up some pics once i get some loaded on to photobucket.

now's where i ask for your opinion. first of all, how would you all do a kinda sexy iron maiden? i know Laam is doing her suit true to screen, and there's been a loooot of arbitrary discussion in her thread about sexy suits and all that. so open the flood gates; let me know what sounds cool and in turn i'll see what i think will work.

second, male black widow. form fitting like her catsuit (please God no) or a more tactical, metal gear solid type of deal? i know that if i just go the tactical route, i won't be particularly recognizable aside from a BW belt buckle, some SHIELD patches on the shoulders, and the stingers (with LEDs if i can pull it off.) thing is, i do want people to be able to associate me with the thor and IM costumes. i need a brainstorming session, and you guys and gals are the perfect panel to ask. let me know what you all think!!!

Moose! Where you been? What happened to your Sith thread?

Skintight Black Widow=Forever alone and everyone see's your junk.

Two arc reactors on her chest!:love

A functioning hinge on her codpiece:love

Slimmer less angular helmet features.:cool

Spray paint the suit on...:love

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

Sup Crabra! I've been around, I just totally lost my motivation with the sith setup due to having no patterns to work with. When I'm feeling most creative again I'll probably get back to it, but for now I'm pretty happy with having pep files to use instead of "well, let's see if this works...."

catsuit=outta here! good, I didn't want to wear one anyway.

two arcs...I personally like that, I'll have to get with her. I think her boyfriend would get quite the laugh out of it as well.

functional hinge would be nice if for no other reason than the fact that she'll be in the bathroom a lot due to drinking. I'm debating the cod though, as I may not do thigh pieces at all and instead opt for attaching a shiny gold skirt very similar to the look of the Sailor Moon costumes (I get this feeling she'd absolutely love that) either to the bottom of the abs or maybe do a half cod and attach it to that. and I don't think she'd want the lower edges of the cod potentially rubbing on her inner thighs. rash and burn :/

as for the helmet. she asked if I could make her a badass helmet, and I've already got all my pieces cut. not to mention I have no idea how I'd go about modifying it's shape in the first place, but I do like the idea. also she has a lot of hair, so a full size helmet might be beneficial if she wants to stuff it all inside.

not sure I'd have clearance on the spray suit >:p

in other news, I've got a few pics up showing my bucket pieces and also a couple shots comparing the normal foamies to the doubled up foamies i created. if you look really close in the pic you can't even tell it's a double; it looks like it's naturally 4mm.

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

I like the idea of this! haha. Let's just hope you can pull it off!

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

ahhhh, believe me, I'm hoping! if I'm excited enough to start 4 months in advance, I *should* be good to go. should.

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

I think if you're going to pull off an easily recognizable Black Widower than its going to be super important that you pull off the red hair. I suggest you start your pursuit of a quality red wig. It also wouldn't hurt to let the suit show off your, ahem, assets even if you are going for a more tactical style ;)

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

is that 1/8 craft foam? or another size?

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

Stretch: i'm no stranger to dying my hair. i've done red before, so i'll just do it again ;P and if i can afford it by the time halloween rolls around i would like to purchase a shirt in this style Evike.com Airsoft Guns - Tac. Gear/Apparel | Evike.com Airsoft Guns - Battle Dress Uniforms (BDUs) | Evike.com Airsoft Guns - BDU - Large | Evike.com Airsoft Guns - Emerson Tactical ACU Combat Uniform Set w/ Build in Knee / Elbow Pad for Airsoft - La in black, so that will at least show off my manly chest. as for the other assets...uhm...i do have a climbing harness, and when worn it does bunch up the groin area. so maybe, maybe not on that one.

Grave: actually no, it's 1/16in foam sheets, i just glued two sheets together to create 1/8 without having to go out and buy it new. ingenuity!

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

check dollar stores. i buy 1/8 sheets 4/$1. 8x11 inch

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

next time i'm in need, i'll keep that in mind. many thanks!

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

if they only sold 1/4 foam. id be set. and so you know, my 1/8 foam ironman head and torso turned out great. got more detail out of it then the 1/4 inch.

Re: Gender Bender Avengers Halloween!

as you can see, it fits my enormous dome. as such i may end up making a new, smaller one for the girl. this also depends on whether or not she needs the excess space to hide her hair. all in all i'm pretty pleased with it. is it perfect? nooooo. is it complete? nooooo. but i do like it. before i go and patch up some flaws i'm gonna see if she's cool with it or if she'd prefer a smaller one. never actually thought i'd see myself in an IM helm. i feel special~~

Love this thread, as I'm an active part of gender bending cosplayer Avenger. We have a female Thor, Loki and Iron man on our team.

but a male black widow? Right on!! LoL! You're the only person alive I know so far who is willing to do this.

I'm not changing Iron man to be more girly--he rocks as it is. The suit will be small and I think it'll be fairly obvious there's still a woman under there but, nevertheless, if I get kids and people saying "hey Iron man, right on!" I won't be offended. I don't want to be PC, I'm in costume--and lets face it, that suit is sexy enough no matter whose behind it.

Power to you and your group!! I'll be watching with interest.

ah haha, nice! it's just a great alternate way to do things, right? take something normal (albeit still really cool) and turn it upside down to make it your own. can it really get any better?

i agree, IM does rock straight up. however, the girls do like their halloween shenanigans and showing off with their costumes. in fact i'm thinking of it as just another way to throw more creative influence into it. example: i dunno if i'm gonna just use straight pep files for IM or try to take it my own direction while using the pep as a guideline. actually i just got the OK on a pink arc reactor. either way, i'm just enjoying making the stuff, so i'm gonna go with it!

but yeah, thanks for the encouragement! i'm really hoping not to disappoint with this, as i've yet to really complete a project. this one i'm pretty stoked for though, so i'm having huge ideas and having fun.

welp. i wanted to start on the chest and back, but since part of it will be essentially free forming it myself i want to have the use of a mannequin. i won't be able to make a duct tape mannequin until saturday, so i'll have a bit of a wait. i also need to get some grad school application stuff done, so the time gap here is pretty well placed. as soon as i get more updates, i shall post them!

For the helmet, how about taking out that piece that you are pointing to, so that she can hang a pony tail out there?

hmm. that would be a good idea. i had thought about that as well but not with any great detail. thanks for the advice, i'll see what she thinks!! though when i say she has a lot of hair, she really does have a lot lol
