Tempest 2

Bridge

I've just made two of the mockups for the bridge tower.

This is the first one.
Looks like a conventional battleship Pagoda mast.
I love old HMIJN Yamato, so it is a little homage to that.

I think it is a bit too tall.

The other one is this.
It is kind of like a bridge of the Zumwalt-class destroyer.
Very simple shape.

The first design is a bit complicated, so it might be interesting to build, but I think the second design is more in tune with this ship. I want to continue developing in this direction.

If you have any comments, please let me know.

Building of the bridge tower.

Using a 5 mm-thick MDF board for the structure.

A primer was applied to see the panel lines.

The pair of apertures on the upper side will be for the IPTS-Infrared parallax telescope system.

I thought the ship battle in space under the EMCON-Emission control, radar is not good for detecting and ranging. It is like searching for a stray cat with a flashlight in the night. I think that the parallax telescopic sights used on old battleships would be effective. When used on the ocean, the horizon limits the observation distance, but there are no such restrictions in space.

I planned some optical fibers to light up the ship number.

A few leaks should be mended.

Add a few more details and lighting later.

I hope you'll like it.

I fell behind a bit, but it has been a blast getting caught up in this thread.

Love the progress you have made, especially the Yamato style bridge tower.
While the Zumwalt one does fit a little better and I see why you went with that instead, hopefully you will get a change to use the Yamato one someday on another project

I actually recently finished up a 1/700 IJN Yamato build and am currently working on the Shinano
it was supposed to be the third Yamato class battleship, but after building the hull, it was converted to an aircraft carrier

Just……amazing.
Thank you always for your quick reaction, Thaddeus-san!
Looks great! :cool::cool:(y)(y)
Thank you always for your support, Lewis-san!

Thank you so much for the comment, Analyzer-san.
Once, I made a 1/700 Tamiya Yamato. It's a long time ago. That model has a good proportion for its scale. I also made a 1/200 scale Yamato about 35 years ago. That was a very old Nihon Mokei kit —maybe released more than 55 years ago. It took a year of research and building. At that time, no internet. I went to the ship museum and bought some books. Lately, some new facts about her design have been found and have contributed to updating the 1/20 scale model of the Yamato Museum in Hiroshima.

Oh, Yes, Shinano. She was sunk on her maiden trip by the torpedo attack of the US sub. Only one shot. It's a mystery of history. I saw the movie 'Torpedo Run' (1958, American film) many years ago.
You remind me of many things!

Thank you, Tom-san!
She’s cute
Oh, yeah, in your eyes, I guess she may appear too young. She is a college student, working this as a side job, and is also the top seller in this role.
A cup of beer costs about 5 dollars at those stadiums.

That tower looks sharp Katsu-san:cool::cool::cool::notworthy::notworthy:
Thank you so much, joberg-san!

A small progress,

I put the IR Optical Ranging System.
I combined a plexiglass mirror and an orange plexiglass.

Added some greeblies, but I intended not to put too many of them here. The balance between the busy part and the rough part is the issue for me.

I think the tower looks great. I could maybe see a few piping type greeblies or some other sensor/radar style stuff added, but it is kind of a "clean" look anyway

Wow, a 1/20 scale Yamato. That is incredible looking. Looks like a cool museum

Apparently the Shinano, being a Yamato class hull, had the same kind of flaw that allowed it to sink easier under the right condition

You are right, Analizer-san. I think some more accessories are needed for this tower.
I will add some more when I apply detailing all over the model.

Towards the end of the war, there were few skilled shipwrights left, and many inexperienced student soldiers were employed, so construction was rushed, resulting in noticeable defects in riveting and welding. On the other hand, the Yamato, built before the war, endured hits from 11 aerial torpedoes for a long time.
What a waste! But I don't blame you guys for sinking it.
