Game of Thrones

If the season finally next week doesn't top this episode it'll be a huge letdown. They certainly have their work cut out for them.

If you've been watching the show from Season 1, you would know that the big story changing climax of the season always happens on the next to last episode. It's not about topping one moment after another, it's about what comes next.

I had a feeling the old dude was up to something damn all that over not marrying his daughter, what the hell would he do if you owed him money!?

In the books it's implied that Robb's wife's family was, in part, in on the plot and it was intended for Robb to meet, fall for, and marry Jayne(sp?) in order to lead to a falling out between Robb and what's his name whose daughter he was supposed to marry. In turn, Robb's wife's family (who were originally bannermen to the Lannister's) would be richly rewarded or at least gain considerable status within the Lannister hierarchy.

I wasn't expecting them to kill Talisa, especially in that way :eek

They did an amazing job with the the whole Red Wedding. In ways I think the episode last night had a better impact than the books in many ways

The scene with Catelyn pleading to Frey and asking Robb to just get up a walk out was superbly acted and the whole thing was just gut wrenching even if you knew what was going to happen.

Supposedly they originally wanted Martin to write that episode, but he said he it was tough for him when writing those book chapters and that he would rather not revisit it again.

Walder Frey...heh...one of the most hated characters in Westeros

Well, there was ONE thing about the Red Wedding that I think wasn't accurate. In the TV version, Rob's wife was there and was murdered first. I THOUGHT she wasn't there and elsewhere, and there was question as to whether or not she was pregnant and would have a child that could have a claim to the North. This clearly finished up that plot thread.

Yeah she wasn't there. There's been a few unanswered questions that they answered in the TV show this season. So we know for sure she was pregnant now, and at the same time I guess it apparently makes no difference to the plot line in the future books. Among some of the other minor mysteries they cleared up for book readers was who ordered Ser Mandon to kill Tyrion.

Also they didn't go too much into the whole thing of Catelyn's paranoia before hand of Frey doing something and how she kept harping on Robb to make sure to ask for bread and salt to secure guest rights

Also while not that important, Catelyn killed Jingebell (Aegon) not one of Frey's brides. So they pretty much eliminated all the fools/half-wits at this point

One other notable difference was the band. Supposedly they sounded terrible and the music was just a loud cacaphony since most of the band were actually soldiers IIRC

In the books, when Dany went to the House of the Undying she had many visions which foretold events to come, especially after going back and reading the chapter. One of them was of the Red Wedding. She saw a multitude of slaughtered feasters, above whom sits a dead king with the head of a wolf. A few remain to be uncovered

One of her other visions is what comes about in the next episode

Haha i read all the books ages ago (and when ever the last one came out).

They changed it a bit too much, but it was nice to see what was going on in my head was pretty spot on.

Brutal, just brutal.

Best books ever, and very good TV show of them!!!

I knew what was coming, but the first few seconds of it were really hard to watch. Kicking it off with that particular pair of victims was sadistic genius - it made the scene so horrible that it was shocking even if you'd been bracing yourself for the other deaths the whole season (which I had).

I think that might be why they diverged from the books in that detail. Since there's so much bloodshed in both the books and the series, something has to be done to show the monstrosity of the massacre, to communicate that this is beyond even the level of horror and violence that frequently occurs in that world. The book does it by spending a lot of time establishing the rules of Westerosi society and hospitality for the reader so that it's shocking when Frey violates them. They don't spend nearly as much time establishing mores in the TV series. They've also got to shock and appall viewers who know how it played out in print, so they put the queen and heir in the room and violate them as well.

Yeah that definitely was a great twist to throw in and I agree, it gave it much more of an impact

I have never made my way around to reading the books yet. So I am relaxing in my chair then I am like hmmmm, weird band is playing, and then I was all over with my emotions and for the first time in my life I found myself screaming at the tv at the top of my lungs NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO. God knows what the neighbors thought. I sat there and watched the entire credits roll, for the first time since starting the series, in a stunned silence.

Hahaha

Being one that hasn't read the books, my brain exploded and I just sat there slack jawed. Now the question is: Who is now the Lord of Winterfell? Not Jon Snow since he's a *******. Everybody thinks Bran and Rickon are dead. Maybe Sansa, since she's the oldest? But, wait, she's married to Tyrion, so what about him? But then again, they haven't consummated their marriage. Like I said, my brain exploded.

Yeah, I do wish they'd told it that way - it really showed Tywin Lannister playing the LONG game.

Those are awesome. "I used to be King in the North, til I took an arrow to the everything!"

Holy moly!

But it comes to mind. Who the HECK are we supposed to root for in this darn series of they all bloody die!!!??

Legitimately and legally Bran is Lord of Winterfell but since most everybody thinks he's dead his claim would go to Sansa and since she's now married to Tyrion that makes him Lord of Winterfell, once he consummates his marriage to Sansa that is.
