Game of Thrones

He does seem laid back, but he was also able to rally the group that he did I won't say more in order to avoid spoilers, but he has to be really, really persuasive when he wants to be.

So far I've been pretty happy with the casting although a lot of the actors in season 2 didn't really match how I envisioned them. Stannis was a lot leaner and clean shaven then I imagined, Balon was older and scraglier, and Yara/Asha much homelier, and Margaery Tyrell a bit older than I thought she'd be given whom she's later engaged to.

Well, she IS quite a bit older than Joffrey. As I recall, in the books, she's at least in her late teens, if not early twenties. The age difference is one of the many reasons that the engagement is protested.

In the books, there's some real question as to whether Margery is actually manipulating people or if she's just an innocent who's caught up in the machinations of others. They took that ambiguity away in the tv series which I'll admit, I'm slightly disappointed by.

I will wholeheartedly agree about Asha/Yara, though.

Try and sneak on set and get us some great behind the scenes pics. :love

She's 16. Almost everyone in the books are a lot younger than the actors playing them on the show, presumably because actors that young wouldn't have the depth of range to play the parts and/or they would grow "old" too quickly for the slower pace of filming.

That's a problem with the younger actors especially. Maisie Williams (Arya) is going to be about twenty-five by the time the character is supposed to thirteen. She's already what.. four years older than Arya is supposed to be?

I think part of it also has to do with the maturity of the roles and it would be either hard for viewers who have never read the books to believe that kids could be acting in such an adult manner so older actors would make it more believable for the average viewer. I also think that some would find it objectionable for these "kids" to be doing what they're doing. Besides, I think that they've been vague as to the age of the children in the series for the most part and most of the actors are fairly young looking although the actress that plays Sansa is rather tall for her character's age unless Cercei is rather short, which I don't think she is.

The show runners have deliberately aged up most of the characters in the show. Especially the Stark children, Daenerys, and the Baratheon children. They didn't just cast older actors who look young, but the actual characters have been made older than in the books. In the first book, Robb and Jon are only 15. In the show they are 17. Same with Daenerys. She's only 14 when the books start. Even HBO wouldn't dare show a 14 year old having sex with a grown man like Khal Drogo.

That was basically my thinking, between the sex and violence casting them and making them true to their book age might be a little too much for some. For the most part having them children a bit older doesn't really bother me and works out pretty well, seems a little more believable at their show age than their book age. The only exception to this is Sansa and only because she seems a bit old to be having her first period just now.

I noticed this about Margery Tyrell too. I wasn't entirely sure when reading the books, but they make it very clear in the show that she's clever and manipulative. Don't know how far you've read, so I don't want to spoil anything, as I've read all the books and am currently working my way through a re-read. Olenna Tyrell is an extremely intriguing character. You can see who likely had a large influence on Margery growing up.

They also took away the ambiguity of Loras and Renly's relationship in the show. It's very subtle in the books, and I know a lot of people who read it first and saw the show later didn't catch on, but then saw them on the show and had an AHA moment of connection.

Huge spoilers from Charles Dance in this video for those who haven't read Storm of Swords, yet I love the carefree way he reveals it.

Again, don't click the link if you haven't read the book!

Despite this...

A bit sad that it sounds like we won't get his death scene along with Shae next year, but completely understand since far too much happens beforehand. It's by far my favorite scene in the series. Was looking forward to it more than the Red Wedding.

We'd heard they're splitting the third book into two seasons. My friends and I agree that Season 3 will probably end with (BOOK SPOILERS):
The Red Wedding

That makes sense, it would be the perfect part of the book to end the season on but I'm not sure if showing the whole thing would be best or not. It might be best to show up to a certain point and end the season on a cliff hanger and leave the audiences all anxiously waiting for the next season to see what happens in the end.
