Game of Thrones

I always envisioned Rayder as older... or maybe more weatherworn. Put a wig on Hugh Laurie and we'd be golden. He could even do the singing.

Still, Ciarán Hinds is a good actor. Loved him in Rome so he should do well here.

It's going faster now.. before, I was re-treading ground I'd seen in the show, so it was kind of slow going (nothing really revelatory), but now I'm in uncharted territory, so I've picked up the pace quite a bit.

For some reason I always pictured Mance looking like Pope from Falling Skies, just a bit older. Ciaran doesn't fit my mental picture of the character at all and I believe he's a bit older than described in the book, but I'm sure they'll make it work. Just trying to picture him as a singer. :lol

Yeah, I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through now, myself. It definitely picks up when you start getting past the first or second chapter where Sam gets a point of view. That was where it really started going places.

He's a terrific actor so, while he doesn't quite match my mental image, I'm sure (A) they'll make him look close enough, and (B) I won't care because his acting will rock.

I mean, my mental image of Theon's sister is WAY different from what we saw, but I thought the actress played her quite well.

Ciarán Hinds is such a great character actor, with such a commanding presence, I'm quite sure he'll be excellent!

See, that's the thing. Even though in the books, Mance is referred to as "King Beyond the Wall" and normally a commanding presence is what you'd want for a king, Mance doesn't really act that way at all. He's rather unassuming as far as kings go in this story. I just hope the writing and acting come together to capture that aspect of the character. I'm pretty optimistic that they will, but you never know.
