I have been a fan of therpf for awhile and have always admired the work done on here. I am part of the 501st and have built plenty of "kit" costumes before. This time I wanted to try my hand at a 100% scratch built costume. As a child of the 80's, I decided on Optimus Prime! I didn't think it would only take me 4 weeks to complete in time for Texas Comic Con but I got it done! I still need a few improvements and also want to add Optimus Prime Sound Bytes for the next show in August. I built this out of Elmers Foam Board and it cost me around $100 to build. It could have been less had I used cardboard boxes but preferred how foamboard was easier to cut, glue, and paint. I also made the thighs stationary to the torso so it looked right. I am not sure if i'll change the thighs since I do like the look. Please provide any feedback you may have as I am new to the scratch built costumes.
Here are my 501st (Star Wars Costuming Group) Costumes I have built:
Here are my Finest (GI Joe/Cobra Costuming Group) Costumes I have built:
and here is my 100% scratch built Optimus Prime which won 1st place this past weekend at Texas Comic Con!

We took Grand Master Overall 1st place in the Costume Contest as well (Optimus took 1st place overall at Texas Comic Con 2013 as well in San Antonio, TX)! My wife (Soundwave) and Me (Optimus) had a blast and look forward to many more Comic Cons!
