Limited Run === G R A F L E X === Flashgun Gen.2 ... now taking PRE-ORDERS!!! New Pics Oct. 5

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

The chrome finish stamped plate and hex nut instead of rivet on the bunny ears is kind of disappointing :(

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

I'm just really surprised about the bunny ears hex screw. That was one of the worst inaccuracies of the parks replicas, and now this has the same thing? Wouldn't the punched pin have been cheaper and easier to do? Maybe someone could do a run of pins to replace it.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

In the video review posted recently to YouTube it's apparent that the stamping is soft in most places and causing distortion in the unstamped flat material around it. Plating in some parts also shows orange peel (like on the clamp). I don't know where these were made, but if I had to guess, I'd say the same factory as Parks/Korbanth have used for their 2.0.

The flash gun still looks quite good, but I'm a little disheartened to see that it's not living up to the quality anticipated.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

Are people reading the threads over on the "Graflex Addicts Support Group" regarding the poor quality & inaccuracies and the flash gun not meeting the pre-sales hype of being a 1:1 replica of a Vintage Graflex, there are some very well respected people in the saber community raising some very serious issues and making damming comments.

I am sorry to ask this because I own a MK1 and it is the most amazing saber hilt, which has been the backbone of the "Roman" brand name for quality and true 1:1 saber replicas not only here on the RPF but in the wider community, but Roman can you please explain what has clearly gone wrong with the quality of your Graflex replica, people are not happy.

What are our options?

Nope.

But it was already stated long ago it's wouldn't be a perfect and working Graflex, as in "functional camera equipment"

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

It must have also been a different factory than the Obi hilts. If the manufacturer is in china, Roman might not have had the ability to make all of the fine tweaks needed.

Since I'm not on facebook I can't check out that group. What seems to be the biggest complaint? I've got a few of these coming and starting to feel a little trepidation here. The hex screw on the bunny ears was probably done to make them easier to convert. I don't know what else is an issue.

I'm a member of that group and here too - just to say, it's by no means all doom and gloom! A lot of positives too.

Check out the unboxing video review from East Coast Sabers recently linked by zjunlimited. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl4czcgJi4g

He touches on a few items - the bottom line is this is still the best replica available, even if it's not the best replica possible. Some of the issues will be very difficult to overcome with mods and some difficult to get right in manufacturing without feet on the ground at the factory to oversee production samples day to day - some might even possibly need serious amounts of retooling or process changes. Manufacturing today isn't the same as what it was in the 30s and 40s, so it takes a special kind of attention to process to produce something in the vintage style.

I still think that a casual observer would could easily be fooled into thinking this is a real Graflex, but I also think the same about the Parks stuff. For anyone paying close attention (not most people), there's no way these replicas can be passed off as vintage, even ignoring the lack of U.S. on the base and bunny ear screw.

I think these flashes are going to make some great sabers. If I wanted an exact flashgun replica to display as-is, I might be more disappointed.

You can buy threaded rivets from someone named Tom Jefferson on the Graflex Addicts FB page. I have one on my 2.0 and they're worth 5$.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

I think people are going a bit overboard here.
As someone stated the issues can be fixed with a replacement pin and some scotchbrite.
I dont think many people realize how hard it is to get some if these very subtle details correct when dealing with a manufacturer who's on the other side of the world.

As it stands now this is still the most accurate Graflex replica available and i still tip my hat off to Roman for such a great product at such a reasonable price which took more than a year in the making.

If youre that unhappy you can always decide whether dishing out $1k for an original is a better option or dishing out $10 for a pin and some scotchbrite is a better option.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

Agreed, it's still far better than anything anyone else has made today, even with it's flaws.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... NOW SHIPPING!!!

It is not my intention to verbal others, people should read and make their own opinions on what is being expressed by some really respected people in the community along with customers who have in-hand flash guns, I was just bringing it to people's attention and asking Roman for his view on what is being expressed about his product and his brand name.

Not sure what good it does to just say "Some good people are saying bad things somewhere else." I don't do Facebook. If you have concerns that you want to be addressed in this forum, state them clearly on this forum.

My flashes arrived today, as well as the 2 extra red buttons and extra clamp. I ordered the extra bits sometime after my initial order, so I was pleasantly surprised to get everything all at once. Just goes to show how awesome and organized Roman is. I was totally expecting to not have the clamp and buttons for several more weeks at the least. I've already started converting my 2 flashes into the ANH and ESB configurations. So excited! Thank you so much, Roman, for undertaking this project. I can't wait to see what you come up with next *cough*mpp*cough*
