Fully 3D Printed Functional MK 42 !! :0

I had waited a while before postin' it seems that you've managed to get a good range of articulation as it pertains to th' heel and toe great work on that little bit of enginerin'. :devil I also see that this is a prototype boot that's good cause havin' ta smooth out all of those quads and vertices world take a lot work /w/ body filler,:devil and this type of project while cool is beyond my financial capability that really sucks lol!!!! keep up th' great work.:popcorn

Hey thanks spardax, yes I like that this printer is reliable and rated at the best. I don't have time in a project like this to worry if my print will keep messing up. The welds are basically making it one piece. After my first weld test technique the two halves were unbreakable by as much force as I could put on them!


if i ever needed ANY motivation as to why i should get a 3d printer.. this video is it..

when i get paid next week, i'm buying the parts to finish my prusa..

haha, that is so great to hear. One of my tech friends is attempting to make his own ABS capable printer from scratch. I'm sure he can do anything he puts his mind to. I might ask him to help on this build also. If you can make an accurate and reliable heated build printer, I would love to see it! That takes some genius. :)

Yes, the heel, the toe, the calf and the shin plate have different articulated joints on them. I am learning now how to create better hard surfaces in Maya. That will be something necessary for the more professional appeal a functional suit would deserve! Yes, it is costly in time and money. I have spent over 80 hours of designing and planning, 150 hours of printing, 50 hours of shopping, assembly and trouble shooting, 20 hours of blogging and capturing media, and over 2000 dollars in supplies. But once it is made, it can be made again and again just the same. Then one day I hope to print it all in Titanium. AWSOMENESS. :)
 
That would be a sight ta see one printed in titanium!!!!!:cool we can only dream some day it will be possible keep up th' good work.:popcorn

I'm assuming you are planning to mold these? I can see you getting a good turn around if you were to potentially offer up kits if this is the route you're going with the suit!! Great work!

Its not just the tools that make things possible, its the creativity. When I was a kid I used anything I could find to "invent" my little contraptions. When I learned how to cut, weld, and grind steel and use all the massive shop machines, I realized that tools allow for more serious materials in your creative processes. But, I have seen some amazing things that RPFrs have made on this site with foam and moldings.

That would be a decent way to get some profit down the road, but I have a long way to go in creating this entire Prototype suit with electronics and all. Thanks!
 
yes both of those aren't infeasible but highly improbable ta happen those are really big odds for me anyway:lol
 
Damn. Did you use math on this? I hate math. But I love you and your work! AHA :D

No, no math required because I could just make the joints the pivot points for the different plates and figure out where intersections on the parts occur. Then when I printed it out it did exactly what I wanted :) I only needed to reinforce a couple longer pivot arms inside with sheet metal.

I've never printed with ABS but think it's probably worth doing it soon.

Hey thanks! Yes, Acetone is the only way to in this for strength. I tried "3000 lb" plastic epoxy and it snapped right apart with not too much force appied after 24 hrs cure. lol
 
Today I was home sick and it was no fun. :/

But, I managed to get some progress on inserting all the main matting inside the boot. It fits pretty snug and is super comfy!
Obviously it is taped closed in the video, because Matt is still working on the locking pin setup when he has time.

dude this is absolutly amazing , i so wish i had a 3d printer ,but no lol so gutted lol , im currently doing the build with jackie is rockins files and i was woundering if by anychance you could share how you conected the shin and boot and also how you made the boot movable im strugling on were to cut it and attach it for movabilllity :)

Hi Streetsoul, I am amazed at everyone who does a complete armor surface build in pep format! It seems really fun, and I have yet to do one. Thanks for the compliments! I will be working on a new modeling workflow to get the boot closer to movie quality. (Josh, just give me the MK 42 lol!) (he stopped messaging me back). So, about the joints, even the rigid ABS plastic articulation I put on something like the shin plate couldn't hold up entirely to normal usage. So I had to cut out sheet metal and screw it in down to where the joint connects. To do this with pep might be a bit hard? hmm...


I'm inspired!

Hone my modeling skills over the next few months while I save up for an Afinia H series :thumbsup
 
Here are a couple things I did from earlier on in my project. These were from a couple months ago, April or so.

Here I made a very large tracing with several pics of the suit, to create these blueprints. I used my Wacom digital pen tablet in PS6.

well i hold a degree in computer science and i'm pretty tech savvy when it comes to engineering stuff.. so i'm pretty sure i can do it :) i'll probably be making my own thread once i get it done and start working on the actual suit..

until then i shall be stalking your thread :) really like the work you're doing.
