I went Jims after hearing about delays on this thread and I can say it wasn't the right choice I have literally worn my suit 4 times and I already have cracks on the abs and yoke from the pieces not being able to even support theyre own weight without flexing or cracking. Not to mention a lot more finishing.. no suit has perfect mobility and every suit has a catch to it

I also had jim’s suit and sold it before I did any serious work on it. I spent hours just sanding the interior and outer prep to get it smooth. Its also very heavy and came with cracks in the yoke when it arrived. Many people repaired it but they cracked again. I was planning on getting it professionally painted at an auto shop... its a good kit if you are ok with A LOT of DIY work and a very heavy kit.

The ab and shoulder pieces(yoke) crack on any armor because they are what flex alot. You have to reinforce them or they will crack easily. Still will crack eventually. The only way to stop the yoke from cracking is have it be one piece like what mimic has going and Jim does too. Jim on his now V5 armor is waaaayyyy lighter than the other versions. My Phasma weighs 45lbs and I have trooped in her with 5inch lifts for 8 hours. Just gotta get yourselves used to it. Dont know how heavy MIMICs kit will be but its fiberglass too guys so gonna be heavier than your ABS kits.

Thats for the updated info. I had his v2 with some v3 updates but to be honest... trying to keep up with the updates is another problem and when I ordered jims kits it was v1. For me to have gotten an update, id have to sell my v2/3 to get a v5 for the weight reduction and better yoke. I definitely dont want to buy armor just to keep chasing improved versions.

I think mimic mentioned the approx weight and it was less than 45lbs. Im sure we will get a more accurate weigh in when the 2nd half of the pieces are cast and finished.

I do not ask for updates any more. Everyone immediately pounces on me saying “how dare I ask”. Based on the progress over the last 12 months, I anticipate getting the second half in May 2019.

Probably right. I order a complete tk from Wayne that is shipping. I get ticked off when I hear claims of perfect and best ever. The workmanship is certainly good and the details are sharp etc but it's far from perfect and you kinda have to have at least one done in full.

Sucks about family stuff my heart breaks for mimic truly. I've offered help via extra funds but just get told to return my kit and hammered on for being impatient. If I knew the lead time was as long as it was I would have went a different direction I canx anovos due to delays last year.

Was on here looking for Jim's thread and I saw all the work mimic was doing and how it was limited so based on the pictures and limited run logic told me it would be ready to cast and maybe it would be 4 month wIt at best man was I ever wrong.

Oh well not knocking workmanship quality etc just disappointed. If I'm a bad guy for offering help so be it. I'm very opinionated so that tends to get my foot in my mouth alot. I just care and am passionate. But fully understand what's going on just wish this run was done for all our sanity including mimic.

Mimic needs to be focused on family not work I get that 100% but needs to communicate that better before raking people over the coals for asking for updates. The lack of pics doesn't help either and the aggorance of saying same as before doesn't help either. I'd be happy with an overall shot of the shop showing molds ready to be cast to back up the words. Just one I could do that in 2 secs. Take a breather go snap and hit post technology makes things so easy.

Hey Guys,

I know it sucks for you to not have your complete armors yet- I can only apologise for that I’m really looking forward to getting them to you! Life has been a little hectic. For those who don’t know my Sister has been diagnosed with a Stage 4 stomach cancer. Also it’s happened after she has collapsed whilst working in Spain so is stuck in a Spanish hospital unable to travel home due to the fluid on her lungs...

Obviously this has been devastating for us - the initial blow seemed too much to accept but now she has begun Chemo and there seems at least there is some sort of a plan, of a future, we can at least take each day at a time.

I can assure you work though continues, and that you’ll have your second halves well before the end of the year.

I’ve ordered the mesh for the helmet mouth piece area laser cut after trying to make it was taking too long that will be here next week and by the end of next week I WILL definitely begin casting new parts.

Sorry again, I know it’s been a drag especially for you guys earlier on the run, I couldn’t have predicted it would have taken this long or I wouldn’t have started. But it’s something in the end I know we’ll be proud to have done- and the rubbish thing is - once everything is up an running and all orders are filled one could be made in a few days- But I guess that’s just how these project can be.

Please accept our Sincerest of apologies for all delays.

Hey MIMIC,
I'm so sorry to hear about your sister and can only hope that things progress as smoothly as possible for your family in this situation.
I'll be thinking of you all in this difficult stage in life.

Hey mimic,

Hope all is well and request for a quick update. Thx!

Hello everyone thank you for the kind messages - yesterday I have begun casting the first arm components- both forearms and hand plates first - I haven’t done the upper arms yet but will maybe tomorrow Tuesday so we’ll see how those look against everything else any day, next will be the TD and legs. Finally the helmet- if anyone in the UK has a good source for the lense material I haven’t found anything great yet so may be helpful- i was thinking hopefully a pre tinted vac form plastic from anywhere? But recently I’ve seen on a film a friend was on that they had used pressure cast polyurethane resins which looked good and could be an option.

Casting continues on the first halves also I’m keeping in touch with everyone in turn via PM.

Hope everyone enjoys what is left of their weekend! Thank you all for your patience and look forward to showing what comes out of the new moulds

Hey mimic, for the helmet will there be the aluminium aerator piece on the chin, I managed to find one on the junkyard a while ago and grabbed it while it was available.

Thanks for the update Mimic , don’t know a source for the lenses, I got mine off eBay and they cost me twice their price to get to me in the uk
look forward to seeing something new soon
wish you all the very best

Hello Madchippy6,

Yes, I’ll be putting some photos up this week of the new arms, and the hands. I haven’t de-moulded them yet but the first ones are laid up :)!! I’m very excited to see the arms against the rest of the armor- it’ll feel good to get a good step closer to completion

Thank you

Looking forward to it. Lent out some my pieces to Calvin so he could size lower half for phasma v2.

Hoping to see another completed upper half that was supposed to be shipped in feburary soon.

Celebration anxiety is real especially with limited good weather to paint like Calvin needs to do with chorme process

Just wanting to find out what chrome paint would be being used and is it a shiny chromed finish, just for another costume I'm working on.

TLJ& TFAV2 Phasma is gonna be vacuum-metalized. Which is the process of evaporating metals(mostly aluminum) in a vacuum chamber and it bonds to the pieces. This is how the movie suits were all chromed.

Another way which is how my approved Phasma was done was a spray on chrome. Which can be done at your house. The process is basically spraying on tin to the surface and spraying on other chemicals to make the tin shine like chrome. Easier seen done and explained on YouTube. Look up angel gilding or spectrachrome. This method provides a mirror finish exactly like chrome if all is done correctly.

There are airbrush chrome paints which aren't exactly chrome but looks good enough for approvals and such is stuff like spam sticks and aclad. Cheaper and less durable but looks good.
