I have been asked a few times if I am ever going to offer up any more Superman crystals.
The answer has been, and still is a firm "Dunno".
I am still working on the "ultimate krypton" crystal that launches lil kal's ship, but that is the last one that I want to really add to my collection. Contrary to popular belief, there is not giant amounts of cash to be made in making or selling crystals. I mostly make or design stuff for my own collection or just general "oh, I want that" impulses. It's sort of like crack, only not flammable and it doesn't get you high, but it does suck up all your money and you always want another hit :angel
Recently an idea was proposed to me that I thought was kinda cool, so I figured I would look for some public feedback on it.
In the (donner) movies, there are a ton of smaller and varied shaped crystals all in and around the control panel for the fortress. Would there be anyone interested in "not accurate" movie crystals that are sort of generic? By that, I mean just randomly faceted, probably dual terminated (meaning pointy on both ends), and just "shiny"?
I am fairly certain that the original company I was working with would be willing to do random ones, probably in various colors if needed. I just don't know if this would be something that many people would want. Some people want exacting specs on their replicas, some people just dig crystals.
The originals were just shaped plexi, and all sorts of sizes, but I am fairly certain I can lock in one or two sizes for length and thickness (something like 1" thick, and 1.5" thick", somewhere between 7-10" long). I guess somewhere in the "can get acrylic tubing to fit" areas of size.
Frankly I am pretty much done with my superman display until some more cash runs along my way where I can build my little display I want to do, but I don't want to disappoint anyone who might want some pretty cool add ons for their stuff. I know how much it sucks to want something cool made, and have that person go "eh, busy now, check back in 6 months".
I don't know much about the pricing, but I do know since I won't have to worry about matching a particular design the labor cost will be a lot less than before. It's not the cutting that costs money, it's making sure they all match up
The Superman 4 crystal is still in the woiks, and there are some other nifty things on the way that I want done, but this is more of a "good idea or bad idea" vote.
If it seems like a good idea, I will start an interest thread in the JY. If it seems like a dumb idea, then this thread will die an ignoble death and I will move on in life.
If someone wants to rough out a design, feel free to share em.
