For gamers: what games would you like remade/updated?

The SNES mechwarrior and expanding on the RPG elements. Illusion of Gaia and a few other overlooked but good RPGs that were out.

I remember reading an article not too long ago about the uncoming mech game HAWKEN integrating RPG elements. It's finally releasing this December, after years of development! If you're not familiar with HAWKEN, I suggest you google it, and/or look up it's youtube videos. It looks AMAZING.

I just would like Battletech to get back to it's more RPG elements same with Shadowrun. Just got Mario Allstars for the Wii and it's kicking my butt. Anyone else want a pet Goomba?

Argh, yeah. Super Mario Bros. 2 (the real one, I think it was called "The Lost Levels" in the Allstars collection) is incredibly hard. I've still yet to beat it.

That reminds me, I'd like to see a new Star Tropics game. The first one was an absolute blast, I didn't play too much of the second one, though they're both available on VC now.

Thinking back, I'm not entirely sure what made it so much fun. The high difficulty level and puzzles made progressing a very rewarding experience, and the simple top-down platforming was just awesome.

I am going to wipe out VC when i get some points lol. Then i'll have the real copies as i hope to have an NES soon even if it's a knockoff. I actually have/had that patch from Nintendo power for finishing Mario Lost levels without using a warp zone back when the game came out. I paid extra to get the photos printed faster so i could send it in lol.

about 20 minutes from Northeast Philly. Near the Willow Grove turnpike exit

Everyone on this site from PA is from out your way lol. I'd like an updated Megaman remake where he looks grownup (like MM X does) and not like 4 year old. Funny thing is all the art for the MM on xbox live have the artwork like the original NES game where he looks like a realistic adult.

My favorite games were Outlaws & Dark Forces I - II.... by Lucas Arts.
Would love to see an update of all three.

Sent from somewhere in space & time...

The Unforgiven, Shadowgate, Duckhunt (with ability to shoot the dog), track and field (perfect franchise for the wii and kinnect), Ikari warriors, contra, double dragon, battletoads.

Like the updated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in time? :sick

Naw, not THAT kind of update. As I was saying, take the game engine from say "Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outkast" or "Jedi Knight: Academy", and make an original trilogy style game. Again, I love the classics, I just want a more modern version.

Frankly, I'd rather just have Dark Forces 1. The first Jedi Knight game was cool but more because it was the first time you could use a sabre. Since then, though, I've grown increasingly bored with Jedi games because nobody ever gets sabre combat right. I'm convinced at this point that it's impossible to do a GOOD lightsabre game outside of perhaps some highly advanced Kinect game, simply because the combat is so dumbed down. Plus, I'm just DONE with Jedi. They bore the hell out of me at this point. Gimme a damn smuggler game already!

I dunno, I thought Dark Forces II was great, but I'd have to say Jedi Knight II was probably my favorite out of all of them. The force powers were fun, and I loved the saber combat, especially in the online duel mode. It was simple enough, but there were a fair ammount of special moves that could result in some pretty triumphant wins. It just worked.

I feel you with the frustration of modern Jedi games though. I hated both Force Unleashed games. They both just had this shallow, rushed, unpolished look/feel to them. And while jumping around chopping up storm troopers was fun for a bit, I never actually felt like I was using a saber.

A re-release of Dark Forces I & II using an updated version of the Force Unleased engine would be neat, but only if it stayed true to the original games.

Ah, you must have played JK2 after it was fully patched. JK2 is actually what proved to me that it couldn't work properly. Here's my theory on that.

In JK2, you had three basic stances. "Yellow" (medium), "Blue" (light), and "Red" (heavy). The problem was that each of these were "balanced" by doing different damage, and by having different speeds. So, red was slow but high damage, blue was fast but low damage, and yellow was the middle-ground. The special moves included a jump attack, and usually a backstab of some kind.

The problem was that none of this made sense. Why would swinging the blade harder cause more damage? I could see where it'd break through a defense more easily, but more damage? WTF? In the early versions of the game, the problem was that most of the special attacks were unblockable (and blocking was nonexistent, practically, anyway -- at least online). So people would just spam those. Then they patched the game to where, as I recall, the backstab attack was an instant kill. This led to people literally running around backwards to do backstabs. No joke. They fixed it eventually, and properly balanced all of this stuff, but even after they did that, one thing became clear to me.

They were treating the lightsabre as if it were a stick, not an energy blade that cuts through just about anything effortlessly. With a stick, it'd make sense that, the harder you hit someone, the more damage that hit will do. But not with a sabre. Also, given how movement was handled, you usually just sort of "jousted" with your enemy because blocking wasn't really possible. You just kinda ran back and forth at each other doing this or that attack and hoping it hit. So, the combination of whiffle-bat sabres and FPS style movement controls pretty much convinced me the game just...didn't really represent sword fighting, let alone sword fighting with an energy blade where the force of the blow shouldn't matter for damage purposes.

I didn't even bother with TFU after playing the demo. It just looked...spammy and stupid. When you sliced the AT-ST in half in the demo, I knew the game just wouldn't be for me. Plus, as I said, I'm bored with Jedi.

Lol, you are correct. The online portion was horribly unbalanced at first, and I do remember the issue with everyone spamming the backwards stab. I also remember everyone spamming force push to toss people off the map and to their doom, which was especially aggrivating. After all was patched, it was much better, though I totally get your arguement with the three different stances. I honestly never even thought about that till now.

I think the main reason I had so much fun with the online duels was the fact that when I did play online, it was usually with my personal friends, and we always made sure to play fair, and try to make the duels as fun as possible. When I was playing with strangers, I would always be sure to host, and boot/ban any spammers. Holy crap, I can't believe that was already 10 years ago... :lol

Last Starwars i played was on the N64 when i was still into the books. On a side note if we keep this thread alive with ideas we'll surpass the Do not bump thread in the OT area lol.

Shadows of the Empire? Aww man, THAT games needs a re-release. Everything about that game was awesome, getting to battle IG-88 AND Boba Fett?! Epic. Even the first level that had you flying an A-Wing and taking down a AT-AT with a tow cable was awesome.

Yeah that game put Star Wars on the gaming map back then at least for consoles. There's an SNES game called Cybernator that was a side scrolling mecha game that would be awesome with new graphics. Back then i was impressed that when you were firing your gun you could actually see the ammo shells hitting the ground.

Yeah, that'd help a TON in making the game more fun. The other aspect of the game that bugged me at the time was how "Quake-like" the weapons were. You basically had "Star Wars" versions of the standard loadout for FPS games, rather than a bunch of different blasters from which to choose.

The game could still be fun, of course, but it was always frustrating to me how it fell short.

I'd like a realistic Zelda game, no more of these weird looking characters, make them more realistic.
