Fogbit – Compact RGB Fog Generator with OLED Display (Custom Prop Build)

Hey fellow makers!

Just wanted to share a prop I've been building – it's called **Fogbit**, a small but mighty fog generator designed for cosplay, photography, dioramas, or even ritual scenes. The whole thing is handheld, rechargeable, and packed with programmable features.

**Main Features:**
- Real fog output using standard water-based fog fluid
- Bright RGB LED at the nozzle tip (millions of color options)
- OLED display with multiple fog and light modes
- Single 18650 battery powered (rechargeable via USB)
- Modular nozzle design – swappable extensions for directing fog precisely
- Compact and self-contained – no bulky tanks or external gear required

Everything from the electronics to the enclosure was designed, printed, and assembled by me. I wanted something that feels like a mix between cyberpunk gadget and magic artifact – compact, eerie, and animated.

Just wanted to share a quick visual of some of the RGB lighting modes currently implemented in Fogbit.

Each mode can be paired with different fog effects (continuous, pulse, breath, etc.), and the light is fully programmable via onboard controls.

I’m still experimenting with strobe, color cycling, and interactive light/fog combos — more updates coming soon!
 
Dimensions?
Cost?
Will it fit in a Haslab Ghosttrap?
Dimensions:
The current prototype measures: 105 mm x 90 mm x 32 mm (without the nozzle extension). It’s designed to be as compact as possible while still housing the pump, heater, control board, battery.....

Cost:
At this point I don’t have a final price — the project is still in the prototype stage.
For now I’m just gathering feedback and refining the design — once I have a stable version, I’ll explore options for how to make it available.
For those asking about pricing — I’ll be posting a separate thread in the Junkyard section once the design is finalized. Stay tuned if you’re interested!

Ghost Trap Fit:
Funny you mention that — it was actually part of my initial inspiration!
It *might* fit in a Ghost Trap if the internal space is enough, but I haven't had the chance to test it myself.
Do you happen to know the internal dimensions of the trap? Or maybe someone else here in the community could share the measurements? I'd love to compare and see if Fogbit could work as a drop-in module.

If it doesn't physically fit inside, there's still a workaround — Fogbit supports interchangeable nozzle extensions with tubing, so it can deliver fog to a remote location. Right now, that extension only carries the vapor, but I’m also working on a version that will route RGB light. Hopefully that will make it even more modular and versatile.

Remote controls or triggering?
Great question!

This version currently supports a wired remote extension with external control buttons — useful if you want to trigger it from a distance or mount the device out of sight.

There’s also a dedicated external port designed to accept a plug-in RF remote (not implemented yet), and I’ve left space inside the housing for a future "Bluetooth module". That’s planned for a later version, assuming there’s enough interest in the project.

So yes — remote triggering is definitely on the roadmap!

️ The nozzle is modular, and I'm also working on a version with a light-pipe extension for remote RGB output.

Update: I’ve added a dual charging indicator system to Fogbit!

Now when you plug it in via USB:

A red LED lights up to show the battery is charging

The on-screen battery icon also animates with a filling effect
Once charging is complete, the LED turns off and the battery icon shows full.

Just a small quality-of-life improvement, but it makes portable use much more intuitive — especially during cosplay events, shoots, or mobile setups.

That's a cool device. Can you change the volume/flow rate of the fog output?
Thanks! Yes — in Mode 1 (out of 4 available modes), you can manually adjust both the pump power (fog flow rate) and the heater power to fine-tune the output. You can also select from several preset LED colors for the RGB light at the nozzle.

Once you exit the menu, the last settings are saved — so the next time you activate Mode 1, it will use your previously chosen configuration.
 
That would look nice on a utility belt---maybe have a rod-shaped version to go in lightsaber hilts, rocket tubes, etc.
That’s actually something I’ve started sketching out — a mounting add-on that snaps onto the back of the unit. It includes a velcro strap so you can attach it to a belt, bag, or even a prop harness.

The rod-shaped version is a new angle I hadn’t considered — but now that you mention it, it could be perfect for lightsabers, launch tubes, or wand props. If more people are into that concept, I’d definitely look into making a new version!

True, but I feel like that retro forecast station is seriously lacking one thing... smoke. Luckily, I might be able to help with that
