Foam Weapons

Hello RPFers!

I just wanted to post some pictures of some weaponry I made using sheets of EVA foam, or as I usually call it, crafting foam. The thicker pieces that I use are usually bought at home depot or lowes, and essentially they are interlocking foam floor mats. The thinner sheets I buy at an art store such as Michaels or AC Moore. Even though crafting foam is rather cheap and spongy, I find it an excellent material to work with and I am quite happy with a lot of the pieces I have made using it. Enjoy!

Hi!!
I am reading your blog, and have some questions... I see you paint the foam BEFORE wood filler???? Its that correct or I am reading it wrong???? Then you sand it and make the rest of the things like primer and so....??? Do you make something to the foam before the paint??

Thanks for your comments everyone. Most of those piece are completely foam. Some, such as the stormtrooper blaster, have a PVC tube base, and other nic-nacs.
r1 - since the foam is porous, I like to seal it using acrylic paint, or sometimes mod podge, or filler primer. Once the surface has been filled it is easier to apply filler and paint. I do not always follow this rule, but it is the smarter way to go. Sometimes I am in a rush and do not always follow this rule.
