Clay, where does this come from? Is it one that you own?

fine work my friend, you make it look so easy, perfect all the way around, can't wait.............
Thank you very much! I am getting so close. I have a few things I am waiting on that I had to order but they should be here later this week and I am hoping that by this coming weekend I will have it completed. Stay tuned and thank you for your patience.

Steve

Steve, it is looking like you are done. Congrats. By the way I was thinking about you selling the two different levels of bios. I can only say this, who the heck would by the level 2 when the level 2 is available? Ha.

Jeff, I understand what you mean but there just may be those who would want the lighter, more wearable, less expensive version as well. Time will tell.

Update time:

I finished installing the leather last night and it turned out quite well. I have to admit though that it has been the most difficult part of this build for me to accomplish so far. Difficult because you have to be very careful with the contact cement so that you don't mess it up. Cutting and fitting the pieces was also tricky but I was learning as I went along and all in all it turned out good. I will be detailing the leather next by painting the edges and dirtying it up a little to make it look more worn. So now I am down to just '1L'...the lasers! The rest of what I need to finish the laser installation should arrive tomorrow so I will be able to finish the "next rung". I also have Monday (President's Day) off to help me get this finished. It has been just over 7 months since I began this project and it is starting to come to a close. Soon the "final rung" will be in place and this thread will be complete finding its resting place in the archives of time with so many others. So get your comments posted while there is still time. Here are the latest pics, enjoy.

One of the embossed pieces with it's washer thingy. I scrapped the paint off of the back of it as well as where it would mount and just used the same contact cement to adhere it that I used to secure the leather.

The leather installed. I hope you can make out the embossing in the pictures.

OK, I admit it...I really must be a little crazy... o_O but it feels really good to be at this point.

Truly Gorgeous Steve, hopefully your thread is pinned and not lost in the Archives..think it deserves to be.

I love the leather work it really finishes the piece off and I think Preds would be fighting each other to get a hold of one of these lol..maybe a few members as well

Cheers

Thank you very much Sean. I really appreciate it. I do not want to create any fighting among Preds or members... :D

Damn the bar keeps getting raised and the leather brings it even higher.  This looks phenomenal.  Lasers will be the icing on the cake...can't wait

Steve Steve Steve, what can I say?

That is one, super, extraordinary, outstandingly detailed, pin point accurate, mother of a piece! Absolutely love how much you committed yours self to this with 100% of your time and effort and just my dude it has paid off valiantly.
I don't think there is a bar that you haven't reach and you probably still have another trick up your sleeve (remind me never to play poker with you lol)

They say that the devil is in the details, but in this instance it is obvious to me that God is in the details.  I'm not much of a craftsman by any means, but I love watching this thread and to see all of the little and not so little things you add to put this over the top in quality, fit, and finish.  The "tokubetsu" aspect of this bio is an inspiration to me in many ways.

Thanks so much for sharing the entire journey with us.

I swear every time I see an inside shot of your bio it looks like CG rendered art.  I am still in awe of how far you've come with this Steve, especially considering it's origins.  Everything, I mean EVERYTHING looks so good, and skillfully put together.  It has been quite a ride over the last 7 months, and I've enjoyed every bit of it...especially the "hidden curves" you keep throwing in.  I really can't wait to see what's up next, as I'm sure it will turn out as good, if not better than this.

Thank you as well Jason...I have had a blast making this thing and had no idea the direction it would take when I started it but you have been a big encouragement along the way. And yes...I still may have something up at least one of my sleeves besides just an arm...

Maybe you can breathe underwater with it too
Hey Jose, that would be a cool thing but unfortunately it may be all one can do to breathe in it above water... :D

Thanks Brian, glad you have enjoyed the ride so far. Fasten your seat belt because this thing hasn't landed just yet...but we are making our approach.

"Just been told by Sulaco67 to check out your bio...its a work of art it looks just as great at the back than the front..well done an excellent well executed piece of work..keep them coming.

Steve, holy crap! I gotta say I didn't know how the leather was going to turn out. Like everyone one else has said simply fantastic. I remember seeing your thread when you first started carving the foam and I thought "what is this guy doing". It has been such an interesting build.

Thank you and thanks to Sean for pointing this out to you. I enjoy that people are intrigued by this build...it has been just as intriguing for me to do with all that I have learned along the way and the friendships that have developed as a result of it.

I was not too sure what I was doing when I started either Jeff... :D but I knew I could probably come up with something workable. The leather is probably the trickiest part so I need to investigate some other processes and products to work it with. Glad you like it though.

Update:

I was only able to spend a little time last night working on it but I did get the leather dirtied up a bit and painted the edges black to blend them with the helmet. It turned out good and I can now say the interior is finished. With that I am down to just installing the lasers and today I should have everything I will need to finish them. This will be my first endeavor to align lasers so I hope it doesn't take me forever to get it right. With my alignment system I am hoping it will minimize the time it takes to do but it could be more complicated than it is worth as well so we shall see.

Here are just a few more shots of the leather, not much of a drastic change but it does look less pristine.

Uuuuhm.... *jedi mind trick* you want to give this to me...

Hahahahaha... seriously. Steve, I am afraid no response is needed any longer. You brought 'the Lair' down to it's ever loving knees with this project, brother. You have taken this craft...this hobby...and this love of something, and have given it new life. You are one of a kind buddy.
