Foam Sculpting My First Bio - Beyond The Final Rung

Are you Kidding me?!! .I have been round these parts for a loooong while now ..this is by far the most amazing creation ive seen in a long time. Thank you for documenting and sharing every step of this. The leather work just set off an already fantastic piece ..seriously ..I almost expect it to function :)

holy crap that is truly beautiful.   your super attention to the details really pays off.  i was wondering why you were using a leather skiver when you could just use a thinner leather.  now i see you tooled it.   amazing little detail that really adds to the aesthetic.

Uuuuhm.... *jedi mind trick* you want to give this to me...

Hahahahaha... seriously. Steve, I am afraid no response is needed any longer. You brought 'the Lair' down to it's ever loving knees with this project, brother. You have taken this craft...this hobby...and this love of something, and have given it new life. You are one of a kind buddy.

-Ricky
Mind tricks don't work on me....only Laffy Taffy's...I love those things. :)  Seriously though, thanks again Ricky, you have been there for me from the start.

Hey George, thanks for the comments. It has been my pleasure to share the progress of this build with the rest of the Lair as I couldn't have done it without the vast support and resources that the Lair provides. It is truly an amazing thing to be a part of. I saw a picture here on the lair of a bio on display in a tall glass cabinet that actually had the basic interior detail cast into it. I do not remember where the picture was taken (some museum or con perhaps?) but it has got me wondering...it is the closest tangible thing to this that I have seen. Was someone at one time making a bio with the detail cast into it? Do you know?

Thank you Daman. Yeah, I didn't think I would want to go too thin as I wanted to emboss it. The skiver worked good to thin the edges which is what I was most concerned with. The leather is 4 oz and I could probably go with even a 3 oz and still be fine. Just another part of the learning process.

Un-freaking real man, truly amazing.
Thank you sir! I really appreciate it.

My only update today is that the stuff I needed to finish the lasers did not arrive yesterday but it did make it to the Weaverville post office this morning so I expect delivery today. This will give me a good long weekend project. My plan is to have it finished this weekend and then I will be posting a quick video to cap it all off so stay tuned for the 'next rung'.

Yes sir. It was the Hollywood Collectible Group Bio helmet. Probably the closest to the actual bio from P1. The interior was created by a few guys at Stan's back in the day. ( I cant remember who..I dont think Matt was at Stan's anymore back then, but i can ask him)
Honestly ..you did a much better job

Steve, do you mind if we share this with Matt Winston? I am not sure if he has seen it or not but I or George or one of us will get  with him and let him know that he needs to check this out!!!  With your permission of course--

Speechless and cant wait to own one of these beauties!!!! IM glad I have been here from the inception and followed this. Well done my friend-- well done!!

Cool...is anyone making a bio like this currently that you are aware of? By that I mean something with the interior?

Clay, I would be honored if you were to tell him. I have thought how much I would love to make one for public display somewhere if there is such a place and they would be at all interested. I do not know where the HCG bio was displayed at in the picture I saw, it looked like a public thing but could have been private. I just think that would be so cool!!!

Just came across this thread.
I have to admit from the initial pic's on page one I was hesitant about how this thing was gonna turn out, being scratch made from a block of foam and all.

Excuse the French but, ******' hell dude! Talk about from block to beauty!
Finest damn bio I personally have ever seen!

Not much more can be said that other's haven't already said.
I tip my hat to you.

It saddens me to know I'll never create anything of such beauty, not even children come close to that!

Just thrown my p1 in the bin (joking ofcourse) this is simply amazing work, I am physically stuck for words. I have looked through thousands of threads on this site and never have I ever come across ANYTHING that compares to what you have created. You attention to the tiniest of details is beyond exemplary and still can't believe that this build began from 6 squares of foam???? I mean wtf? I have thrown my hat so high in your honour that it has yet to come down

Awesome work, truly awesome

Thanks everyone.

Update:

It is officially DONE! After a failed attempt to align my first set of lasers I stepped back and tried again with much better success so the next rung is complete. Here are some shots of the wiring and laser installation.

The PCB I created which has a small switch and two LED's, one green LED indicates power is on and a second red blinking LED indicates the lasers are active when the pivoting arm is depressed on the mouth area.

Some of the wiring harnesses and connectors in place.

The housing mounted to the fixture I made to help align the lasers prior to installing them in the shroud.

The laser diode pigtails pass through holes in the shroud and plug into connectors on the back of the PCB shown above.

A final shot with the lasers lit up.

And a video of how it functions. A bio like this needs a little bit of "bling" to cap it off.

Here is a shot with the COA which completes it.

Again, I am grateful to everyone who followed this thread and supported/encouraged me along the way. I could not have done it without you. Thank you.

OK-- This is so bittersweet-- its done and that is awesome-- A true work of art!! But now what do we have to follow on the thread??  Whats next Steve??

Can wait to get mine!!!

Um, okay       Dude.  Wow.  If you aren't completely happy and PROUD of this, then there is something wrong.

I really don't know what else to say here Steve, I'm at a loss for words.  You did a hella good job with those lasers (told you they were a PITA, didn't I? lol) and the blinky flashy inside is so very cool.  So, When are we gonna see these in the market place?

Brian

Steve, Thanks for the video. It is truly an amazing piece. I am curious also as to what is next. And you say you have never done anything like this before? That is just crazy. Congratulations on finishing the build. I hope to have a final video up like this very soon. I feel I might slow down not having your updates to spur me on. Again, very very nicely done.

Haha, I love the little blinkies inside the Bio!  Well done Steve!  That's simply amazing...I have no other words...just incredible work...
