Foam Iron Man - Imperfect Start - Con Page 5 / Sound Page 6!

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

Looking good. If anything, the helmet looks like it might be a tad too big.

However the chest being just a little small may make the helmet look a bit to big? I'm looking at how he added a piece to the abs because they look like at first the chest sat above the last plate.
My chest and helmet are to big but it allows me to fit in it.
Either way it still looks really good though Bradester.

Hmmmm....if I make the very bottom thin Ab piece wider, it'll push up the Ab section a bit I think and make it appear to fit better?

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

Armor looks great! Second helmet looks WAAAAYYYY better than the first. Have you considered going back and doing one more helmet now that you have all this experience pepping the armor?

Personally I would but thats only because the helmet is such an Iconic part of this armor, you can get a few things off on the armor and no one is going to notice but the helmet makes it or breaks it in my opinion.

Dude I think it looks great I was just saying by observation from your pics.
We often tend to see what is wrong with our own work way more than anyone else would. (Hope I didn't offend at all that was not my intent)
that might work well though be careful not to damage what already looks good though.
I had to alter my chest piece probably at least 10 to 12 times before I finally liked it.

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

With a Con in a week, the helmet is staying. It may look a little big, but my head is also 24" instead of the standard 22".

I Could raise the Cod which would raise the Abs and then just make a bigger filler piece between the Cod and Thigh?

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

What about extending the gold pieces that join the chest to the back an inch or two and that may help?
Or just use it as is it really does look good I'm sure people will want pictures.

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

I could raise the Cod an inch or two because I could extend between the legs and it wouldn't show.

Abs are connected 2 straps/buckles in front and one in back.

IT'S DONE! OMG finally!

Honestly I didn't think it would take 3.5 months to build and tweak. But do I have pics yet? No. Why? Because I'm the least flexible person alive and can't put it on by myself. So I/we/you must wait.

This weekend I'm going to my first ever Con (Rose City Comic-Con), so I'm curious to see how she holds up. Then maybe some more tweaking like sounds, a rocket launcher popped out of the shoulder/neck area... a few things to personalize it.

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Tweaking Question Page 4

Well done!! Lets see, Just take pics of the armor on the ground if you cant wear it :)

Ta da! It's done!!!

I would like to thank JFcustom and Stealth for their inspiration and plans towards my project and all that have benefited from their works.

Re: Foam Iron Man - An Imperfect Start - Done Page 5!

Now that it's "done", it's time to customize!

I bought a 20 second sound recording device from Radio Shack:
9V Recording Module - RadioShack.com

and made a 17 second sound of the Hand Repulsor charging and humming. Once installed into the Wrist Armor, all you do is bend your hand back so the glove hits the button and the sound plays. If you want it to stop you just bend your hand again. Easy peezey!

Pic 1: The Recorder.
Pic 2: Recorder installed. Once you have the sound finalized, just cut off the microphone and record button.
Pic 3: A foam "bridge" made and glued over the Play button. The glove hits the bridge, the bridge pushes the Play button.
Pic 4: The recorder painted flat black to hide incase it can be seen.

WOW, I have been doing my homework on a foam build and this thread has definately inspired me to do it. Ive been following this build for a while and I am really amazed at the improvement in the foam building and just your ingenuity with the customizations. GREAT JOB man.

Re: Foam Iron Man - Imperfect Start - Done/Sound Page 5!

I bought a Boom Cube for $13. Mine came from Grocery Outlet, so I'm sure other places sell them. It's a small and quite loud USB rechargeable speaker. I figured I didn't want the speaker inside the suit, so I hunted for a place where it could be mounted externally but not destroy the look of the suit, so I settled with that indentation on the Back between the shoulder blades. I carved the section out, hot glued the speaker in, painted it Flat Black and there you go! It's still accessible from the inside of the suit to click the power switch and for battery recharging.

All I'm going to do is use the free Suck It Soundboard (or free Pocket Fart) app for the Iphone, and load the app full of varied gear and walking sounds. The sounds will play in random order as my phone hears he moving around; and the nice flat phone will just be velcro'ed into the back of the suit with me. Give it a try!
