Fixing a Windu FX Saber...Dissassembly? Sound Issues.

Gone but not forgotten.
Hi everyone...

I'm hoping someone has done this and can advise me. I got a Mace Windu FX but the sound doesnt work ... Most of the time at all...if I bang it a bit sometimes is starts up. But, if I shut it down and wait a bit , bring it back up...no sound.

I've tried taking the batteries out and re inserting them...
When I shake it there is a tiny rattle from inside, just above the batteries. (With or without the battery pack in it.)

I was able to dissasemble it as far as the bottom is...meaning, from the bottom up, all the way to being able to remove the grips...but not above where the battery pack makes contact.

Also I removed the top gold emitter ring around the blade...

I'm suspecting there's a screw either under the rubber grip or under a gold button...but without knowingh I don't want to ruin it as far as looks....thats the only thing it has going for it at this point...

Arrrgh!
This is the only FX I've had problems with.

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

I had a similar problem with my mace. The blade would light up but I got no sound.

It ended up being a very simple fix. First take off the end cap and used your hand to hold in the battery case. Turn it on and see if adding pressure to the battery case makes the sound turn on. On mine that fixed the problem. There wasnt enough presure on the batter pack for the conections to touch on both the light and the sound parts.

To fix it I poured some poly-urathane glue that expands as it dries in the end cap so it gives it a little more "push" just be sure not to use too much because it can leak out the speaker vents and make a mess.

yep, that tut. will help ya alot. and the spacer idea also. after i had done my first vader esb convert, i ended up cuttin the housing just a tiny bit short. and i had the same thing happen. so i went to wally world, and got me some of the sticky back foam sheets in the craft area. cut a circle of it to fit the end cap. cut out the center to allow for the speaker from batt pack. and that fixed her right up.

Well, I took it apart, great tutorial on dissasembly..Thank you...

What I found though was...well nothing wrong with the innards...I tried a vader battery pack on it and it works...now this was just to prove that it was somewhere in the battery pack...

So while messing with it I found that sure enough as you said...it would light only , but with a little pressure it made sound etc...with the vader pack...

I have to put my Windu pack back together and I'll bet you're right, that should fix it...I'm going to bed now though :lol

I'll let you know if it truly works :)

Thanks for all the input guys...and Great to know there are replacement parts available ;)

yeah, just make a spacer in the endcap, so when its tightened down it will push the batt pack a lil tighter to the pins up in there. should do the job for ya.
