First Pep attempt, Old School Hero Stormtrooper. Casting.

Re: My first Pep attempt, old school Hero Stormtrooper

Ok the delivery company doesn't work weekends :)

I'm getting all the bits ready for the silicone when it turn's up:

The newly painted parts:

I've built structures out of rigid urethane foam to build the moulds onto so that I have the parts supported well & I have plenty of area to form a wall around the edges:

I've done a similar thing with the ears, they'll be supported on a foam structure but in this case the structure will be covered in a thin layer of clay & then the ears will be pressed into them & dressed in :)

Edit:

Got those ears ready:

Dude, that's crazy good.
Second one from the bottom looks like an ABS bucket. Or an injection molded part!

Take some shots under the sun when you're done!

Re: My first Pep attempt, old school Hero Stormtrooper

Thanks Guy's :)

Just for the record here's a pic of that very first attempt in regular printer paper, the practice run :)

It begins! :D

The first detail coat is on & I'm about to start the second coat. I usually do two coats prior to using the thixo additive & building up the overall thickness :)

Thanks :) that was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Dare i say... The force awakens! ;)

Right, that's the rubber dealt with!

Its not pretty! In this case its function over form :)

Next is to build GRP jacket's over these.

Thanks :)
Yeh, Looking forward to getting on with them but I need to get some progress on my Alien first, more moulds to make! :rolleyes

Casting is much more fun :)

I've got a tiny bit more work to do to the moulds before I cast out of them. I'm going to create a lip around the outside edges out of silicone with thixo that overlaps the GRP by half an inch-ish. Doing that should support the edges, effectively clipping them in place & reduce any chance of them flapping around. It also means I'm less likely to get casting resin on the jacket :)

Re: First Pep attempt, Old School Hero Stormtrooper. Moulds Made.

Yeah my mold jacket has smoothcast 300 on the inside. In addition to my terrible first attempt at keys its another element giving me bumpy casts.

The overlapping sounds the one. Adding fresh silicone to set silicone? I attempted this and it worked but did delaminate in a few places. Gives me an unwanted line that needs removed on every cast.

Re: First Pep attempt, Old School Hero Stormtrooper. Moulds Made.

Ah right, this will be on the very edge, so no where near the cast.
The silicone will stick fine as long as there's nothing on it like grease or release agent. I'll clean the edge first with a bit of white spirit just in case I had something on my hands :)

I make my keys using an ice cube tray but I also build a few other bits to help support the mould & act as keys out of the thixo silicone :)

Re: First Pep attempt, Old School Hero Stormtrooper. Moulds Made.

This is just a super build. I'm very much in awe. I've got print up on of these files and give it a go. Very inspirational, man... And I'm 40ish or something.
