I think in the end this one should be red, I know blue was going to be the colour but history and your memory it's Red 5 ,
its like Ferrari's only your first one must be red
your enjoying this build , I can see another in the works, do a smaller scale in blue ?
You could hang hang a print out of a blue and red xwing where your going to display it, then the right colour will speak to you

I'm about 80% red at the moment, I love the blue, but the red just gets it more authentic I think. Not sure I've got the red the right tone, needs to be darker, plus on the fuselage it's too thin, so I might doubt it. Added photo of the cover up of the skid hole I didn't have before

It's a bit tricky to show how big this bird is, so as a Coke is a universal size scale comparative measure, I got some pics to show the scale a bit better. Also I printed decals for the build, but I'll possibly have to paint the red markings on, not sure about that.

A few more scale shots. I haven't weathered a model before, so I'm experimenting and learning as I go which means I'm doing it a little backwards as I should have got all the colours on before washing it.
So I painted the rear engine cone things and the inside of the main engines, they seem to be a darker colour in reference. I was going to use decals for the red, but I think I'll get some model paint in a closer tone of red and airbrush it. I'd like to try and add some rust colour and then airbrush some wear. Don't really know what I'm doing, but it's a ton of fun

I've been playing around with a rust effect, not sure it's right, but it's not terrible I think. Found a Tamiya colour that is close to the decal colour, so I'll get the red markings on soon. Repainted the grey engine parts with a lighter grey as the first one was too dark

Got the red on and had some issues with tape ripping the white and bleeding under the tape, but as she's a dirty old beast, I'm not concerned and I'll fix the bleeds and weather some more. Getting near the end now, just a bit of airbrush black and I think I'm done

Well, I'm finally done!
I learned so much doing this and I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and support. There were times when it was very daunting as I wasn't too sure what to do, but I carried on and now it's complete. I was always worried I didn't get the wings built quiet right, but now it's all together and weathered, I think she looks pretty good.

Thx Pcoz, I really enjoyed adapting and building it. The size and some of the accuracy was the original attraction, but the different challenges of the material and scratch building engines, wings and cannons really tested my limited skills. There were quiet a few months we it just sat there, but I'm so glad it's done and I love how it turned out. I may revisit it in a few weeks and tone the main engine intakes down and add more definite panel lines to the inner wings, but apart from that, she's good to enter service I was very happy with the red I found as it's a metallic and it adds a nice element to the markings.
As for what's next.....now I can focus on my 8 ft Easter Island Head Build

hey yaris....just taking another look at this and i have to say the detailing is superb. the weathering makes this bird look like she's been in tough action.
I do notice that your stand seems rather large. is it necessary to have it this big due to the size of the ship or the particular pose?

The reason I made the base that big, was I intended to have a death star trench theme base and wanted it large to compliment the size of the X Wing
I never thought about that, this could be the first open wing version.

Wow! Great job Yaris! Very impressive results, I think it's fair to say your work has been a benefit to not only these toy conversions but to X-Wing builds in general. Now I need to push through an finish my Falcon so I can start one of these myself.
