Fill in what country your from in your profile

Hi all

I go to reply to a post with advice on how to do stuff or what stuff to use, but most people I come across donÂ’t fill in what country they are from in there profile.

It would be so much more helpful for saying where to get stuff or what stuff to use if you knew where they are from.

I am not asking for full postal address, just country.

:) Don

Ok, that's not really a technical change that I can implement so I'll just leave it here for people to see. :)

Can this be implemented as a required field for new registrations?

Obviously, the data for existing accounts would need to input this information on their own accord. An locked annoucement/sticky could get this request across without a ton of replies saying "Country added." or "Done" or "I'm in the USA.", etc.

Just a thought.

Be nice to have available. Probably can be set up. We really don't want to record too much info on people. Sadlywhen one checks the data base many members can't list get their state and city in the right place :lol

There is a field that already requests country if not in the US ("State (if in the US) or Country (if outside the US) Florida") but I wouldn't be comfortable making it mandatory just for the convinience of knowing where the person answering a question is located.

Personally, I don't think anyone should be compelled to answer personal identity questions just because we're curious. IMHO, of course.

Very valid point. Granted, location can be extremely vague (IE. "Earth") but it is personal identity info nonetheless.

i agree , especially for junkyard posts (i wouldnt waste a sellers time /or mine) if i knew he was 'not local' and the shipping would be an issue.
