Fauno Pan's Labyrinth full body sculpt -- FINISHED, final photos in first post+end

Re: Fauno, Pan's Labyrinth, full body sculpt. Opened the head mold on pg 5!

*however seams seem to be really good thus far.* - For the seams you can reach easily in a plaster mold, you can fill them with a bit of plaster (enough to plug the hole, and rework the plaster to match the texturing), I do that where I can - it saves quite a bit of time / effort on cleanup

*THIS is what you get when you are overeager and pull out casts from the mold too soon. * - Another thing I do (well part of its because i brush/slush cast latex) is over cast the piece (My molds have an extra 'lip' section) that way while it is curing i can pick at it and see how far along the drying is and how thick (as you know thickening a cast is a bitch once its out of the mold xD)

BUT HURRY AND PAINT IT NOWWWW (Well, I know you're going to take the time to do it properly xD) but cant wait to see it painted :D !!! LOOKS AWESOME :D :D :D :D

1. Under-face-sculpt (to be attached to the helmet as a support for the eyes)
22/23. Eeeeeyyyyeeees

And then assembly/painting.

TWO THINGS. First, I've ordered this lovely mannequin because the green base I sculpted the cast on is easily 5" too wide for me now:

F-Large-Headless-FAT1AWT-1.jpg

Dimensions on this mannequin are off by only 1/2" here and there, so it's as close to perfect as it can possibly get without being "me" and frankly I don't have time to make another mannequin of myself. After I'm done with it it's going to be the stand for Wrex so I finally get my #@$%#! dressform back.

I'm going to put the undersuit on the mannequin, then carefully attach certain pieces of latex directly to the suit, starting with the chestpiece/stomach piece.

SECOND, I used the remainder of my Dragonskin Pro silicone (I had half a pint kit left) in the hopes that it would be enough to get me a good headcast. Unfortunately it was just too thin in places so I'm none too happy about wasting what I had left to get a bad cast. And now I'm wondering if I should skip doing this in silicone altogether and just move forward with latex. What this would allow is for me to get an EXACT color match to the rest of the piece (which I was struggling with, to be honest) and it will look "of a whole" and also, it'll be way cheaper because I won't have to purchase yet more supplies. The more I'm thinking about this the more I think it's a great idea. Anyone have any reasons why silicone would be better than latex, other than being able to move around easier on my face--and keep in mind that it's MUCH larger than my face, so it wouldn't actually BE moving on my face?

I've also ordered a ton of craft moss that will be applied all over the piece. Kinda looking forward to this part!

Re: Fauno, Pan's Labyrinth, full body sculpt. Starting to pull casts! on pg 5

Very hard to take a photo of onesself when wearing a mask that doesn't have eyes.

I'm still missing the under-support for the face, which is why it looks a bit droopy. And this morning I thought of a great idea that will allow me to make a support structure for it without any guesswork at all. I'm gonna use the DragonskinPro mask that didn't work out... place it back in the mold... and brush in smoothcast into the areas where I will need the support structure. After I get a nice coat I can remove it and brush on more reinforcement, and add padding so it will rest against my face.... but in the meantime, I will have an EXACT curve of the under-support for the nose, eyeridge, and cheek area.

I'm sure this isn't a new thought but thought I'd share in the meantime. I'm glad I'm getting use out of the Dragonskin cast discard!

Re: Fauno, Pan's Labyrinth, full body sculpt. Starting to pull casts! on pg 5

Okay guys, I'm running into crunch time on this project (two weeks left) so I will probably not update except sporadically until the con itself.

Good news, though, I've decided to video the last 8 days so there will be a lot of content AFTER the show.

But if you're going to be at Dragoncon, just come see it in person. Or say hi, especially if you've been following/posting on this thread from the start :) I'm planning to enter into the Friday Night Costume Contest and I will also be wandering around with my partner at Propped Up Creations' Angel of Death from Hellboy 2. We will be in the Marriott between 4-8 pmish (right in the center there is the sweet spot) on Saturday.

I will leave you with some of Reith's awesome WIP work on the Angel of Death. We are both posting a lot to our FB page in the meantime!!

I'll definitely have to stop by and see it in person, it's been incredible watching this whole thing come together.

Nothing is actively hurting me whilst wearing it, but after about two hours you are verrrry cognizant that those are GIANT HORNS and they are on METAL SPIKES resting on your head. As for sight, next to nothing.

I am not 100% happy with the above, but have time to do some tweaking before I do my final on-location shoot. :) That's still far away (just in planning stages)

Finally done!! It's paid off after all that hard work :)

Breathtaking! What a feeling of accomplishment you must have! Comfort and vision are overrated!

:)

I'm in the midst of trying to set up an on-site photoshoot for this costume... but in the meantime, if you want to see a bit of the stress of putting on a costume for the very first time and some of the things that ALWAYS go wrong in the first wearing (For example, I wore this twice; the first time using an adhesive that was meant for silicone and the second falling back on good ol' prosaide, which worked soooo much better; and the second time also managed to attach the "butt flap" better!), you should check out this behind the scenes video. My part starts around 8:30 and is the final ten minutes.

My apologies for general derpiness.
