Kylash or others who bought the testing unit: is it just me, or is the 'jewel' in the middle seem to actually be one of the light bubbles from the unit as well? I don't have my plate yet for sure, but it looks dead on.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Yes the jewel is on the Farnsworth Stand .

I meant the little glass bubbles of which there are 3 on the unit purchased. I think one of them is actually the actual item belongs in between the farnsworth 'speaker' "grill" below the 3" lense.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I'm still thinking that the clear jewel on the farnsworth is actually one of the
light domes from the cathode ray tester.

These two pictures make me think it is...

There's definitely a 'void' below to my eye at least. I'm wondering if it at least *started* with the cathode ray light dome, and that mayhaps through use and abuse was switched to the 'jewel' later.

Or am I just imagining things?

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Your not imagining things. The problem is it doesn't come out of the trim ring. If you find a way to get the lens out of it's housing without breaking it let me know. It shattered when it tried.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Without seeing the real prop in person there is really no way to say for certin. But here is what I see looking at the picture in the 1st post. The shape of dome of the crystal or lense looks more like the crystal. It is more shereical where the lense is shaped more footballish shaped. Now that could be just the picture posted. Also there is diffently something at the back of the dome where the dome meet the brass plate. In most of the pictue some of (what ever it is), is missing. Like it was removed to glue the dome down. But as I have learn there only so much you can get out of a photo when making a prop. So I could be wroung. This kind of posts there should be more of.

PS My crystal is glued down and I hate to have to remove it.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

From the pictures supplied I really only see a fairly clear cabochon much like the ones we have. I honestly think that any perception of a space behind the dome is simply that - perception. Any look of a darkness there is a result of low level lighting and the materiial on the back of the cabochon. In different lighting conditions those pictures might look completely different. I also think that if they'd used the light from the cathode ray tester the ring on it would be a feature that helped it look older and they would have maintained that look even if they'd replaced the light with a cabochon..

It's very hard to tell from the pictures. It is also possible that those pics are of a very early version of the Fransworth.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

My own attempt at removing the domed lens from the ring is also a failure so far. It is a dome- and the lens is domed, not football shaped.

I do however see a seam on the ring, which makes me think it's screwed in. The drawback though, is that it's an airtight seam, and I have no idea how to get it unscrewed. I've tried, and failed so far. I may try on another one with a rubberized clamp set, but I don't have a whole ton of hope.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Does anyone have a couple jewels left over? Why didn't we do aa bulk buy? Would that have been any cheaper? LMK

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Now you've reminded me that I want one!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I'd be willing to buy some Domed Jewels from someone as well... I didn't want to have to spend $30 for 500 of them... because when you try to order 40 for $5.00, it says $25 minimum order... Yes... please let us know!! Thanks!!

I think it is actually better to have it dark behind the clear cabochon, because isn't it supposed to be the Camera Lens that films you while you talk?...
