Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

The button I bought off eBay looks like the right size. The button diameter is just a hair over 3/8" and the shaft is about just a tad larger. And yes, the button is concave.

What was the description or the item number on Ebay? Even the seller ID would be OK. I might see what it's like.

Id suggest looking for something that lets you transfer a wav or mp3 files vs recording, youll get a much clearer sound. Either way, cool :)

the time between rings might be a little short, but i wanted to fit all the speech and enough rings to let it go for a little while and have the beginning pause.

Hello. The eBay seller is antonline and the switch is a Gardner Bender GSW-22 and looks very close. I'll try to attach a photo.

Also they should update the source of the crystal to artbeads.com. They are only 80 cents and no shipping cost!

Search ebay just for 'GSW-22'. Only these switches come up, and there's another seller offering them for $5.79 (less than half what the other seller wants). Shipping is only $3, and he'll combine so you can buy two or three if you need multiples...

You can also find it on Amazon for about $3.50 + $3 shipping... And Home Depot for $4.49.

$12 is way too much for this switch. They are just adding their $7 shipping charge to the sale price to make it look like you getting a good deal with 'no shipping charge'.

Hey Kylash327,

Can you measure the diameter of your pushbutton switch top?

Thanks...

Which jacks did you end up using on the side and which pushbutton?

Now with the knurled sockets on the side:

One of the issues I'm going to have with this is that I'm colour-blind (certain colours). What paints and methods did most of you use to get a suitable colour for the box? If I follow instructions fairly closely I should get a reasonable match.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Thanks. The GSW-22 at home depot is 13/32" diameter and requires a 3/8" diameter hole for insertion. I'm pretty sure this is quite a bit larger than what you have found.

Yeah all of the specs I read for that switch say it's like 5" high. That is enormous.

$3.50 and $3.00 for shipping would be fabulous. I added it to my cart on Amazon to check the shipping price to Australia and it is over $50.00. It is highway robbery what some of these suppliers charge for international delivery.

I've also been trying to buy a Joe Swanson (Family Guy) action figure. An Ebay seller had them in stock again ($9.99). I added that my cart and ended up with $44.00 more shipping.

So nearly $100.00 shipping costs for two items worth under $15.00 in total. Convert that to AUD at the current exchange rate - I don't think so.

well, it's big, but it is only about 5/8" high or so, which is maybe as much as it could possibly be and still fit.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I just ordered one of the units Kylash got his from, I'm debating casting the button piece, and replacing the head with the cast piece on an easier to find stock button- so that I have a few extras of the 'correct' one. Not sure if anyone else has thought of this.

Also- if anyone wants the second switch, shoot me a PM with the offer.

Thatr's weird. Amazon really needs to sort out the sizing of things in their descriptions. It had dimensions of 1"x2.8"x4.8" I think for this switch. I thought it sounded wayyy too big to be correct. Other similar switches from Gardner-Bender had similar dimensions listed too. Hopeless.

5/8" would be fine.
