Farnsworth Discussion

Thanks Interceptor, although I do like the 'new' look of mine, I think I would like to weather it...not too sure how to do it as I don't have an airbrush.

Yes it looks great Chris. Good job. I did think of doing one new and one aged with one of them having the dark screen and the scanner attachment. I have enough parts for two and one mostly built.

True but you can go for the factory fresh look or it could be an extra stored away in a corner of the warehouse.

Cleaned up and restored by Claudia.

Maybe I should get one of the faceplates really clean and then leave it outside for a month to weather (hot humid weather coming), then rub some of it back off to show wear.

It's been a while since I've been on the thread but thought I'd post a photo of my finished Farnsworth. The plate still isn't secured but it does seem to fit in snugly. I'll probably opt for using magnets to hold it in place eventually.

For my lense, I used a battery operated spotlight but I still would love a clear lense, so I can place a lit picture of Pete etc, behind it. I found a child's nightlight similar to one seen on the thread but unfortunately the 'character pic' cannot be removed from the inside of the clear lense :(......so, if anyone has a spare clear plastic lense, I'd really appreciate it. The only electronics in it so far is the red led light, activated by the right hand button. I still want to weather the faceplate to give it the right look but haven't attempted this so far.

Hope you like mine...

Chris
Hey Chris;
Looks great!
Where'd you get the brown knob from?

There was a "Farnsworth" section in the warehouse shelves that had stuff incuding Farnsworths and spare parts. Might have been in the episode where Claudia was looking for parts to make the scanner attachment.

Very flattering that you want to put a photo me on your Farnsworth. LOL.

Obviously some of the kids lights have a removable stencil and some don't. The ones I got to see if the lenses would fit, did have removable pictures. I just bought them from Ebay.

Thanks all again for the kind comments. I really am chuffed that I actually completed this prop. It's totally my fav!
Yeah Peter, I'll pop down the hardware store and see if I can find any more versions with removable stencils...

And I think I'm gonna stay with the clean look for this one, as recently restored by Claudia :lol

and as for the photo, Peter :lol!!

p.s - just a small update....here's my new plaque which arrived yesterday, for the display, courtesy of an RPF member. :)

Just checking the various knobs on the first two posts. Is it just me or is the part linked for the centre knob the wrong one?

Or does the base flange go below the brass plate?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping it's ok to post these pics here. I've been following this discussion for about a year and you've inspired me to build my version of a Farnsworth. I envisioned it to be a later prototype, smaller because of newer technology. I used an Altoids tin because it was what I had pretty much everything else was pulled out of the drawers of "junk" in my workshop!

It's my first try, made up as I went along, revised a few times as I thought of and found different things to use. It's not perfect, but I hope you like it.

PS: I borrowed the "Philo" name from another poster..thanks!
