Hi all. This is my first time posting on this site. Comic Con is finally coming to Cape Town in 2020, and I decided to make my first ever foam armour!
I am writing this post as I've nearly finished my costume and want to share it with you all.
I decided to do Faora UL from Man of Steel. For this project I used the following:
1. Good reference pictures - you can use any pattern available online, or you can order a figurine and copy the patterns from there.
2. 3x1metrex5mm sheets EVA foam - from Coskraft. You can use 10mm thickness if you want.
3. 2x2mm EVA foam for detailing.
4. A Tork Craft mini rotary tool - from Takealot. You can use any rotary tool.
5. Plastidip - I also got this from Takealot.
6. Rustoleumm spray paint, paint brushes/airbrush.
7. Contact adhesive.
8. Painters masks.
9. A homemade mannequin - follow instructions on how to do this and have someone to help you.
10. Cottonn Lycra for the body suit - you can purchase a spandex suit, or make your own. You can also use any other flowy material for the Cape. (I can't remember what I used).
11. AA heat gun.
12. Weldingg gloves and a gas mask with gas filters.
13. Safety goggles.
14. PVC pipe.
15. Clear worbla - from Coskraft.
16. Craft knife with extra blades and cutting mat.
*WARNING: EVA foam releases toxic gases when heated up! Please be careful and work in a very well ventilated room or outside. Be sure to wear all your welding gloves, as the heat gun can get very hot and you might burn yourself. Be sure to wear a mask and safety goggles when using your rotary tool as you don't want those nasty foam particles getting in your mouth or eyes.
