Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Well, full steam ahead here! I have completely re-drawn the pattern and webbing to match the screen worn mask, as MCL34N suggested and I have to say that it is much improved from the last pattern. I have even gone so far to MOC up the printed shadow effects for the raised honeycomb segments. I think the results will make for a very screen matched effect, this is after all how it was done on the real Spidey suit. I am yet to find a suitable object to appropriate an accurate honeycomb texture and am still on the look out. Next I will be refining the shadow effect so it has the same splotchy pattern and contour shadows as the real deal.

Well, I think I've got to the point where I can't see it improving any more than it is. I'm pretty happy with how it it looks so I think I can call it done, at least for the computer work. Next thing will be to have it printed and figure out how to make a silk screen for the printing on to the lycra, now that's going to be fun! I am still yet to find a suitable honeycomb texture so I think I'll just run a test using MCL34N's method puff paint method, until I can come up with a replacement.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Maybe if you add some light spots on some of the honeycombs it'll look more raised. I'm really starting to think that some of the red is actually just the way it's printed and no like puff paint or anything

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

supernatural, if you want to try to add some depth to the webbing or honeycomb without the puff, just try adding a slight bevel and emboss to the layer effects. use a inside bevel with a hard edge. and play with depth and that. it should produce you a nice desireable effect

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

This isn't a dye sub pattern Ty, so there won't be any 3D effects on the patern when it goes to print. Of what you see above only the greyish tone is the print, the red is only there as a visual aid. Just like the original all that will be printed is the bold shadow effect, using the same method you would print a t-shirt graphic, then the 3D texture go evor top or that. I know everyone's been doing it the other way but I feel the colours aren't as vibrant as they would be otherwise and it just wasn't how the did it.

If you want, I could add several effects to the patter to show what it would look like as a dye sub, if that would interest you guys.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

I was never going to be able to leave it well alone, so I've spent a couple of hours testing a few new effects, to get it to the stage where it's finally good to print. As I've said before, this isn't a dye sub topic so what's grey will be printed on top of red lycra, just the screen used suit. I'll be researching the printing process and I'll be looing for somewhere to have it printed locally, hopefully it won't be too expensive a process. It should at least be cheaper than dye sub, it is only one colour after

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Thanks Ty! You know it's pretty funny really, nearly every second post I've had to re-affirm that it's not a dye-sub pattern. All fun and games.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

fantastic work, can't wait to see how it comes out. do you have a plan for the eyes yet?

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

I will be doing the lenses however it would be virtually impossible to scale them accuately without a finished print to go by, so I will be making them later on. I was planning on buying a set off Joelai but lately he's dropped off the face of the Earth. I guess it's all up to me to deliver, again.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

It isn't a matter of finding out how to, as there are many different methods for textile printing, it's more a matter of finding a local place that isn't going to take me to the cleaners.

I know I said that it was finally done, but as any good perfectionist worth his salt will tell you, it's never finished! I spent some great amount of time altering the pattern so it would line up proportionately correct against the real deal. After I was happy with pattern, I then went back and re-worked the honeycomb shadow effect in order to accurately match the screen used print. Now, I can finally claim it to be ready

SupernaturalFan where abouts in the world are you located?

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Answer, the greatest country in the World, Australia!

Good news! I've tracked down a local place that's willing to do the screen printing process on top of the lycra. So, I should have some news back in a couple of weeks or so. Then I can get stuck into crafting the lense frames and finishing the off masks.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Yeah, I've seen them Ty, I just don't think they're too accurate. Plus there's no garauntee that they'll fit my prints, so I'd prefer to just tackle it myself. That way I can have peace of mind in that they will be perfect! I'm sure I can handle that easily enough.
