Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Once the pattern of the lenses is close to the eye, you can see through very easily.

It looks like the puff paint was used to trace around the edges of the front spider, and the front spider looks like it was just printed with the suit. The puff paint around the edges gives it the "full" raised illusion. Don't know if you guys know this already, I just noticed :lol

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Nope, I think your eyes are playing tricks on you. The actual costume did not use puff paint like MCL34N's suit and the lines/honeycomb are an actual textured latex added to the fabric. The greyish outer shadow is actually screen printed directly on top of the lycra pattern and adds the illusion of depth to the raised textures. This is how it was done on the screen used suit, so will it be done this way on my masks.

Still waiting on the piece of the screen used mask to arrive, until then I can't actually do much of anything. It's a little bit frustrating to be perfectly honest. Once I have it I will be able to accurately re-create the screen used mask pattern and also take moulds of the actual textures. Once I have done that I will begin creating my shadow overlay for screen printing. Fun times!

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Hmmm I'm not sure if this piece you're getting is screen used. The thing that tips me off is that the webbing is inconsistent with the movie pattern. I know this because I actually got this detail wrong too. If you look closely at the movie suit there's a line of webbing that sort of starts out of nowhere, here is what I'm talking about-

Here is your pic again-

and here is my old pattern, which this "screen used" piece is very similar to-

Aaand just for fun, here is the picture above with your "screen accurate" piece overlayed on top in photoshop-

Now, who exactly sold this to you? Because I think they should be banned from the forum for deception.

EDIT you know what? I think I know where this came from, I sold this exact piece to a guy who claimed he was going to frame it and give it to his son for his Birthday. He asked me to make it "As accurate as possible" and since it was only one piece I put a lot of effort into doing just that. What a scumbag. AND he even asked if I could rip it up and make it look battle damaged, but I left it intact so he could do the battle damage himself. When does pete ever have a hole in the back of his mask?

Those are bad ass!! i want to see the whole suit. So far MCL34N has the cleanest i've seen on here.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Replying to MCL34N's message: He doesn't ever have one back there lol I noticed that one web out of nowhere but never realized you didn't have it. Had me fooled. I agree with the banishment as well. Becuase if that is from the actual mask it should look identical to the first pic on this thread and it doesn't honeycomb and webbing wise. I don't think we'll ever figure out exactly what they did on this suit

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Well, I wouldn't say that we'll NEVER know. There could be a really indepth making of for the costume like on the Spider-Man 2 DVD. That gave the whole community a LOT of information.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

That's very alarming news indeed, I really do hope this isn't the case. I've sent a reply to you're PM inbox MCL34N. There's no need to take up any more of the thread with this, I will be persuing the claim and if it is in fact a case of fraudulent misrepresentation I will take action and see to it that the culprit suffers immensely. Cheers for the heads up!

I have not been discouraged and I will never the less be continuing on with the masks, with or without the supposed screen used piece. Thanks.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Hey, Great work on your project. I just wanted to know something, is the honey comb design in your mask 'Honey Comb' that when you touch it it actually is 3D that you can touch the honey comb, or what is it? Please Reply. And how did you do it? Thanks.
Keep up the Incredible work!

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

I remember the sales thread here. It was never described as 'screen used' - it was however described as 'production made'. I believe he said it was test piece. And it came with a COA (from an anonymous collector) - if I recall.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

oh my lord...dreams are being raped left and right this week...bittersweet coincidence with the release of the movie we've all been waiting for.

Re: Fan's Amazing Spiderman Mask Project.

Sure, it's going to be a lot more difficult to do this without the help of a real piece to go by but I've more or less figured out how to best replicate the design. So I'll be modifying my pattern thanks to MCL34N's advice and continuing on with the project!
